My husband really likes this whole series. He's tried the Hornblower and the series by Patrick O'Brian, but likes this series best.

Lambdin is my favorite of all the Nelson era naval authors . He may not be quite as literary as the O'Brian Aubrey series but his main character, Alan Lewrie, it as likable as any character in fiction that you will meet. The books have adventure, humor and good character developement. True Alan Lewrie's character may not meet many peoples standards. He will never win as husband or father of the year but as a Sea captain and a scamp he wins hand's down. A great series of books you don't want to miss if you like the sea adventure novels.
