In this book, Deborah Cooke kicks off her pretty awesome Dragonfyre series. I picked up the second book first and fell instantly in love. I then read the third book and then the first book. Simply because that was the order I found them in.
I tell you what though, if I had read this book first, Kiss of Fire, I would've stopped right there. It sets up the story for an epic battle between good and evil, but lacks spark, for better terms. You need to read it to understand the entire back story of the Pyr and their enemies, but its not necessary. Its a slow read. Leisurely. But the passion between the characters is dim at best compared to the next two books.

I found Kiss of Fire boring and the characters juvenile.
For a hero...Quinn too often messes up in protecting Sara. Quinn knows his duty and desire is to protect Sara, yet he accepts a challenge from another dragon leaving Sara vulnerable. And that's not the only example of the hero being a non-hero and non-dragonish.
But I will give the second DragonFire Novel a try; my hope is that the series will improve because I do love dragon fiction.

Although I felt this book had a lot of promise ultimately it fell rather flat. The premise itself is fine. Ancient shape shifting dragons, called Pyr protect the earth and the humans in it from fellow evil dragons called slayers. Once during their lifetime they find their destined mate by undergoing a firestorm.
Unfortunately the plot dragged, filled with way too much action and very little interaction. The two characters ended up being very lifeless and it was hard to care whether they got together or not. The abrupt end to the main characters firestorm also seemed very anticlimactic and unsatisfying.
Honestly there is a lot better paranormal romance out there. I would say pass this series by and read something else.

I really tried but the writing is....just not that interesting...The premise is good and the characters could be interesting but they are pretty one dimensional.

This was the best book ever! Very fast paced from the beginning to the end.Lots of dragon lore and plenty of heat between the lady and the dragon. Great read and am waiting impatiently I might add for the next books that follow.
REally enjoyed reading. Couldn't hardly put the book down. Can't wait to read the next book.

I have always loved books about dragons and this one really delivers!! Quinn is a Pyr - a good dragon who is also the Smith. The Smith is a dragon who works with metals and can do just about anything with them like a blacksmith. Quinn saves Sara from an attack in which she sees Quinn as a dragon but passes out....when she awakes Quinn is in his human form and she thinks she was imagining things! One thing is for sure...Quinn knows Sara is his destined Mate.
The book grabbed me in almost from the start and had several twists and turns...there is some Romance, some dragon fighting and a whole lotta good reading! I highly recommend this book!

I really wanted to like this book. It has all the surface elements of a great start to a series. But it just didn't make it, for several reasons. The actions and motivations of the characters went back and forth and changed from moment to moment. I never did get a clear picture of what Quinn and Sara looked like. The world building didn't always track, I found myself several times saying "huh?". Usually it is the heroine who gets the "too stupid to live" label, but it's the hero in this book. Not that the bad guys are any brighter, one has the stellar line, "I did not!" The rest of this series may improve, but I won't be there to see it.
For all the historical fans, Cooke is also Claire Delacroix. I like her style of writing. It's fast paced with clear thought pattern that plays the story out like a movie. Her story isn't as gritty or dark as Ward (which is one of my favs) or some of the others. So, if you like you paranormal less graphic but still full of action and fun I suggest reading it. It looks to be a first in a new series that I think will be a winner.
I should start this review by saying that when a book is about men changing into anything other than vamps, I am most likely to put it down. That said a man that turns into a dragon, well I gave it a try and am glad I did. While not one of my favorite series, this is promising for a good read. Especially the world, I could get into the story without overly thumbing my nose at the concept of this dragon world. So, even if you might be a skeptic I would give it a whirl before you completely disregard it.
Kiss of Fire is just another common paranormal but had dragons instead of vamps. Girl fated to be someone's mate, girl resist becoming mate,then girl realizes he is the love of her life. Same old story. If that's your thing, then this book is for you. Personally I like a twist to my story, something fresh. This certainly wasn't it. Don't think I'll be reading the next in the series.

My first book by this author. The plot is somewhat YA, but the writing style is quite good. Dispite the fact that this book has alot of good qualities, I found myself lacking enough interest to finish. Can't really say why, nothing particulary bad about it. I suspect many readers will enjoy this series.

Quinn is a nice guy. Truthful, protective without being domineering, and thoughtful. He give Sara the time and space she needs to get a grip on the new reality she's facing. For her part, Sara is a practical person who deals in hard, cold, facts. When she's presented with irrefutable evidence that dragons are real, she doesn't panic or go into denial. She accepts the new reality, asks questions, and reads up on the subject.
I have to say I liked Donovan from the first. His book is the next one, but it's his POV in the prologue of Kiss of Fire. I read the sneak peak for his book and can't wait to read it. I also hope that Rafferty, poor guy, gets a firestorm.
