This books starts a new series about vampires and their breedmates. The vampire storyline is a new twist on the stuff that's already out there. The characters are great!
The first book is what most series introductions are - the setup to the premise for the storylines of the rest of the books, but it is still exciting as well as explanitory.
The books can be read out of order (so far there are only two - one on the way in December), but I would recommend reading them in order because you get background on characters that are featured in the second book and it will give them more deapth.
I am already hooked on these two and will buy the third as soon as it hits the shelves.
If you love vampire romance as much as I do, these books are for you.

1st in the series and what a great book. A lot like the JR Ward books. This is Gabrielle's and Lucan's story. Danger and desire. Looking forward to the next one.

Lucan Thorne is a vampire. He is also the leader of a group of vampires known as Breed warriors. They fight Rogue vampires, those vampires who have given into the bloodlust. Gabrielle Maxwell is outside a club and witnesses a brutal murder of a man to a group of Rogues. She takes their picture with her cell phone camera and runs to the police. Only the police don't believe her. Lucan was also at this same club and he watches Gabrielle unwittingly become involved in his world. He cleans up the mess the Rogues left behind so that humans will remain unaware of vampires. He now has to get those pictures from Gabrielle.
I couldn't get into this book. I couldn't connect with the characters. I didn't care what happened to Gabrielle or Lucan. It seemed like they were only skin deep. I think Adrian has potential though. Some of the things her characters thought or said were quite funny; but it wasn't consistent. When the Breed warriors were having a conversation together, it was laughable, but not in a good way. Their âhe-manâ talk was more than a little over-the-top at times and seemed silly.
Kiss of Midnight wasn't neatly wrapped up at the end. Lucan and Gabrielle do get their happy ending, but the bad guy gets away. There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end when the bad guy's identity is revealed, yet left unresolved. There were many story arcs that will continue in the series. In some ways this book was more of a set up for things to come. I am interested enough to see what Adrian has next that I will be reading the next book. Let's hope the second book is better than the first one.

I was skeptical in the beginning...thinking "here we go again, another Ward copycat."
Regardless, I kept reading, it caught my interest. Not only that, I determined there were only SOME similarities to BDB, and that this was a whole new twist on vampire brotherhood. Adrian was, I think, successful in creating a new series with new characters that are far enough away from BDB that there will not be any confusion or disappoinment. I found there was more of a story, and less of the hot sex scenes that have become standard in paranormal romance; it was a nice change from the "same old stuff." I am left now to wait patiently for the rest of the series to become available on pbs. sniff sniff, sigh....

This started really slow, and I actually put it down for quite a while. I decided to send it to a friend and needed to finish it. So I picked it up and reread a few pages before my last stop and couldn't put it down. It has a strong JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood feel to it, but there were enough differences to keep my interest (and the ones that were the same are the reason I love BDB, so who can resist). I'm now looking forward to the next in the series and, of course, I already have my favorite warrior that I can't wait to read about. Strong, tortured gorgeous men are really hard to resist, at least in books.

Really slow start. Took me several days to get through the first 100 pages b/c nothing was really happening. Kind of BDB JR Ward but not as well told. Felt a bit like a copycat not that that is entirely bad. I mean BDB has only so many books, right? Also perhaps this book is more romantic between H/H than BDB and certainly some steamy scenes. Will read more in series but it wasn't a "wow" book for me.

This was one of those titles I had to doggedly force myself to finish. To Adrian's credit, the group of Breed Warriors she has created are sexy, engrossing characters and certainly alpha Breed Warrior Lucan Thorne is seductive and interesting. The compound where they live is cool, there's a very touching burial description, and for the most part there's a good sense of each warrior's individual personality. That said, it was embarrassing to read much of the warrior's dialogue between each other reduced to cliche fraternity speak, bumping fists and issuing statements like, "Game on!", "F--k yea!", "Got your back 'bro". Adrian doesn't make it clear why it's such a bad idea to mate with a "breedmate" such as Gabrielle Maxwell. Yet, I did force myself to stay with it since there is a good story there under her uneven writing and there are tender moments between Lucan and Gabrielle. But then the book tanks again with a pretty lame closing paragraph that abruptly wraps things up. I'm going to pass on the rest of the series, but if you are the dogged and devoted sort, I think Breed Warriors Tegan, Nikolai, Rio, and Dante have potential to be alluring characters.

The plot I enjoyed and there were a few surprises I really appreciated. I wished the characters were developed a little better. I don't want to give anything away but significant things happen to the side characters but it lacks emotional depth because you don't really know them. I will keep reading the series to see how the war pans out.
Lucan is your typical "I can do everything myself" alpha male. His character seems typical and nothing really stands out about him. I had a hard time liking Gabrielle even though I really wanted to. She has a great back story and the introduction to her character is really well done. Then, it fizzles for some reason. She lacks strength, and I don't mean physical. She basically does whatever Lucan tells her with very little complain. She is also not the most loyal friend in the world because when she finds out one of her friends might be involved with the bad vampires, she makes a fuss about want to see if her friend is okay for about two minutes. Then she gives up because Lucan says no. Total pushover. She does some major fighting for the relationship with Lucan and that's the only things she seems to fight for in the book. Otherwise, it's like she is half-dead. She also forgives so easily. Would have liked to see Lucan get humble and do some groveling.
I think it would have been better if she added a little more humor to it. I also am intrigued to learn more about the other warriors.
Despite all the complaints I have about the book. It kept my interest enough to finish reading it and that doesn't happen very often with characters I don't really like. So if you are looking for something to pass the time, I would recommend it. But I don't think this will knock your socks off.

This is the first in the Midnight Breed series. I love some of the other vampire series on the market (i.e. Christine Feehan, JR Ward, Laurell K Hamilton, Lynn Viehl) and was nervous that this book would not be as good - BUT I am so glad that I read it. A great start to the series.
As with any start to a series, there is back story, action, betrayal and some great steamy scenes. This is Lucan and Gabrielle's story. You get to know the other warriors a little as well and I can't wait to read their stories. I also can't wait to read more about the war with the rogues and how it all plays out.
I love the author's twist to vampire lore making it her own! I recommend this book and look forward to the rest of the series.

Like so many of the other reviewers, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, and while, it does favor Ward's style, it is fun and different. The only part that had me thinking, "HUH???" was when she explained the vampires existence as being aliens centuries ago?!?! Otherwise, the timing is fast paced, the sex is steamy and the characters are really likeable.

This book did not grab my attention like the BDB or Lords of the Underworld. I wasn't engaged in teh characters until later in the book. Maybe it was due to setting up the world for future books. The ending was surprisiing though and would recommend this book to others. Can't wait to read the future books to find out how everything plays out.

1st in a series of vampire romances. Gabriella is a photographer who even though she has friends and she is very successful feels alone in the world. Lucan is a very old vampire of the Breed dedicated to killing all Rogue vampires lost in their bloodlust. He is fighting the turn himself and as a warrior does not want or need a breedmate until he meets Gabriella. Great love story, pretty hot love scenes, believable characters. I throughly enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one.

I was hooked right away. Lara Adrian reminds me of JR ward's vampire series. All the characters are great. Good romance and suspence throughout!!
First book in the series about Gabrielle's and Lucan's story. I just love this book.
Too mushy
When I first started this book, I read about 50 pages and then put it down. For some reason, it was not grabbing my attention but since I have all of the books in the series I decided to push on and pick it back up. I am really glad that I did. I truly enjoyed Lucan and Gabrielle's story. Lucan's constant fight against the Bloodlust kept me turning pages to see his strength and determination to pull through it. Of course, let's not forget the power of love...lol I can't wait to read the others!

Very good book. Mystery, Suspense, Romance. Not the best book I've read, but a good enough book. Stayed up all night to read it. Can't wait for the next book to come in the mail :D
This was a great change from the All Ages books I've been reading. What a wonderful discovery of love.
This book was HOT! I loved the interactions between the hero and heroine (in and out of the bedroom). To me, this book had it all...romance, angst, and gore. I really like the way this author put a spin on the creation of vampires and how human females play a role in the vampire species continuation. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
it was hard for me to really get into this book until about halfway thru but that could have been because of what I had just read. It does get really good though.. it just didn't seem to flow until the middle then it gets going and is hard to put down..I have the next in this series and look forward to reading more in this series.. not as good as say Aisling Grey series but good and worth reading.
I started reading this book and gave up after the first couple of chapters....I then went back to it and Im glad I did!! This book was a very interesting tale of vampire warriors who call themselves The Breed. They are out to kill and and all Rouges who prey on humans and who have given into the bloodlust. There was a cute romance involving a Breedmate and one of the oldest warriors. I also liked that there was a bit of a cliff hanger that makes you want to read more. Overall, it was a good book!
This book was definitely super hot but rang a bit too closely to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The plot was ok but lacked the intricate side stories, amazing secondary characters, elaborated action, and great pacing JR Ward produces.
Not sure if I will read the 2nd book in the series though. The open ending of this book does stir up my curiosity but only slightly.

I thought it was a great book, I instantly started collecting the rest of the series. I liked the fact that both the main characters were strong Independant people unless they were alone; then the chemistry burned HOT! Definitely worth a read.
Great book!
Excellent read... one that i will read again and again
First try with this author. A bit formulaic, but well written and kept my attention for the whole book. Will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
Great read! Almost as good as the BlackDagger Brotherhood
This is the first book by Lara Adrian and the first in the Midnight Breed Series. It took me a while to get into the book; I actually put it down and started reading other things. One day I had free time and decided to give the book another try. After a few chapters I was hooked and couldnt put it down. I definitely want to read more about these Breed Warriors.
The characters are well developed and I enjoyed the story. Lucan is the leader of the Breed Warriors and one of the oldest vampires still living also known as a Gen One. He has been alive for over 800 years and has yet to fall in love. He is known as one of the "hardest" vampires there are...maybe even cold hearted. When fate brings Lucan to the doorstep of Gabrielle Maxwell he doesnt know what to do with himself, he is instantly drawn to her. He has never felt like this for anyone and he shouldnt be feeling this way now, especially for Gabrielle who is a breedmate. As time goes on the two of them become closer and Gabrielle manages to melt Lucans cold heart one drop at a time.
With this being the first book of a series it has a lot of background information to set up a baseline for the rest of the books and characters to come. Kiss of Midnight is similar to many books out there meaning it is about love, lust, and the pursuit of happiness above all else. It is about the unbreakable bond between two who love each other without bounds. The main character will do anything to protect his love interest.
The characters are comparable to the characters in the Black Dagger Brotherhood with a few vampire lore differences. If you liked the BDB by JR Ward you will like this series as well. I have books 2, 3, and 4 of the series waiting to be readI hope they all captivate me like to end of this book did. I cant wait to read them all!

I've read several different authors in this particular genre and have found that JR Ward and Adrian although have some similarities, are two of the best writers of vampire romance thrillers. I've tried others..kenyon,feehan,etc. and found that their writing and characters were lacking.
I you love the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward, you will love these.

Already a fan of Ward's BDB series, I decided to give this one a try. Kiss of Midnight is the first of Adrian's Midnight Breed series and it's a treasure all on it's own. While similar in style to the BDB books, this series can stand on it's own. Again, it's the perfect combination of studly warrior vamps and sultry mates. Hot for sure.
Good series, especially for those of us that already are involved with the Dark Hunters, Black Dagger Brotherhood, Carpathians, etc.....

At first impressions it was quite similiar to Ward's vampire series but I pressed on as I noticed Ward's praise review on the cover of the book. It was a pretty good read. While not on the character development of Ward it was a intriguing and captivating story. I look forward to reading the whole series. If you are a fan of JR Ward I strongly suggest you check out this series. This is the first book in the series.
This book is solidly written and engaging. However, "Kiss of Midnight" is incredibly derivative of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series; if JR cleaned the dialogue to 'prime-time' tv standards. There's a blurb on the front cover quoting JR Ward, so theoretically she's ok with it. However, this made me enjoy the book less.
I found this book to be boring and I had to make myself finish it.
A vampire romance novel that has strong overtones of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The state of the art mansion where they all live together, the nightclubbing, the warrior vampires, the computer expert vampire, the silent angry vampire, the handsome sexy vampire, the leader who really isn't looking to lead, the bonding, their devotion to their life mates are all very similiar to Ward's books, but there are enough differences to keep the vampire mythologies distinct. In this series, the vampires are descended from a handful of warrior aliens who crash landed on earth a long time ago.
If you've read the BDB series, you're going to find this a poor second choice because Adrian is no JR Ward. I think I would have enjoyed this series a lot more if I hadn't read the Black Dagger Series first.
The story takes a long time to get going. It's very slow in the beginning and only kicks up the pace in the latter chapters. It lacks the humor and camaraderie found in the Black Dagger Brothers. Even the worst BDB book is more interesting to me than this book. What Adrian does wrong is to tell instead of show. It's more interesting for a reader to come to a conclusion on her own rather than having it spelled out by the author. The cliched romantic dialog is straight out of some mass market romance book. It was so corny and laughable.
I really didn't understand the conflict between the hero/heroine in this story, nor did I care much about them either. Their character development was lacking. Their connection to each other isn't explained well. The heroine is very annoying. She finds out that he has repeatedly lied to her, tried to control her mind, had sex with her when she was asleep, but she continues to profess her great love for him. Ugh. How can you root for a heroine that's that stupid? She has a paranormal ability that is mentioned early in the book, but isn't used or explained again. The love scenes were just fine - nothing special or interesting considering he's a 900-year old vampire.
Sometimes the first book in a series isn't the best so I'll give Adrian another chance. I'm planning to read the next book to see if her writing improves, but if it doesn't draw me in, I'm done with this series.

Most reviews compare this series to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward and then proceed to criticize many of the elements as an attempt to 'copy' the story line. I actually enjoyed this take on vampires/secret societies and vampire lore.
Of course there are similarities but that can be said of many series by other authors in this genre. This group of warriors are a bit tamer the BDB but interesting and sexy, none-the-less. I like it for the fact there are not 25 story lines going at once and you can focus on the characters. The plot line is good, great action, and really like this set of characters. This first installment starts you off with just a handful of warriors and some of their mates, so not over-whelming. If you are looking for something a little less in-your-face, try this series.

Book One of the Midnight Breed Series..
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell's deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night -- or this man -- is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed -- a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.
Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren.
