Rue Silver is half faerie, half human. Her mother died, leaving Rue and her father, Thaddeus, alone. Or did she really? Rue believes her mother is still alive somewhere.
Using her faerie powers, Rue travels into the world controlled by her magical grandfather and discovers her mother is still alive. Although she doesn't want to be tempted by this other world, Rue is entertained by her brief visit there. She knows she must return to keep her friends safe from her grandfather's plot to take over the city.
Relationships between Rue's friends are strained, making them vulnerable prey to the powers of the faeries. Rue realizes her boyfriend, Dale, is definitely under their control, but her attempts to convince him to fight their power over him fail miserably. Even with her ability to control plants, Aubrey, her grandfather, continues his plans to make the city his.

Fans of Black's fantasy style will appreciate the mystical world inhabited by good and evil faeries. Rue is half faerie and learning where she belongs in the world -- especially since it has been rocked by the affair her father had, which cost the return of her mother to the faerie world.
I am trying to remember what happened in this book. I mean, yeah, her friends and boyfriend are becoming sparse and the faerie king has plans for the non faerie world... Nothing seemed like it was new in the story, though. Nothing was resolved; nothing really changed in the end. I was left feeling meh.

This is the second book in the Good Neighbors series of graphic novels written by Holly Black and illustrated by Ted Naifeh. It was a good follow-up to the first book, Kin. Last I heard this is going to be a three book series.
In this book Rue goes in search of her fairy mother. When she finds her mother all is not what it seems to be. Rue's friends are becoming more and more endangered as fairy becomes a bigger part of their lives and Rue finds out that her grandfather has plans to pull the city into fairy and make it his own.
The storyline in this graphic novel is good and moves quickly. There are a lot of things happening at once so sometimes it is a little hard to keep track of what is going on. Still it is an interesting storyline and, for the most part, the graphics represent the story well. My only complaint would be that at times it is hard to tell who is who based on the drawings; I wish this was clarified a little bit better.
Overall it was okay. The plot is a bit too broken up for us to get really engaged with any of the characters, but I liked the story. I am eager to read the next book and see how things pan out for our heroine Rue.

This is a Graphic Novel. I didn't know that and I don't like those so it didn't work for me.
