I have collected all of Kitty's books, but I'm trading this one. I definitely do NOT want to re-read it. The 2nd half was a HORROR story and I just did not appreciate all of the killing of the "good guys". I think Carrie Vaughn really went the wrong way, and the possibility of violence would have been better than all of this carnage... and more about the release of their 3rd pack member.

This is the seventh book in the Kitty Norville series by Carrier Vaughn and it was a great addition to the series.

In this book Kitty gets invited to participate in a reality TV show. Her and a bunch of other paranormal celebrities are supposed to spend a week at a house out in the middle of nowhere. With them will be a skeptic; they are supposed to convince the skeptic that paranormal creatures exist. Of course things start going terribly wrong when people start turning up dead. It is up to Kitty and her housemates to figure out what is going on before everyone is killed!

I was worried that this story line would be a bit cheesy for Kitty, but it really worked. I loved learning more about a lot of the paranormal celebrities that Kitty has interviewed on her radio show or talked about, but never really got to know. Then of course Odysseus Grant shows up and he is a whole lot of mysterious and interesting. The subtext that goes on between Odysseus and Anastatia (a very old vampire) is intriguing and leads this book to a whole new level and potentially a whole new story arc.

The book was fast-paced and super easy to read. Vaughn's writing style is just so readable and personable; reading the book is such a fun pleasure. There were some very well done action scenes but not until later in the story. It takes a while to set up the story but Vaughn does a good job of making the setup suspenseful. The really strong feature of this novel is the characterization, there are some awesome characters in this book. Kitty especially has grown even more comfortable in her role as a leader and really steps it up in certain scenes of this book...knowing where Kitty started, it makes me proud of her :-)

Given the horror house theme of this book I was happy that it wasn't too scary. It is definitely suspenseful and creepy just not crazy scary (I am too much of a wimp to read really scary books). The story arc that is developing longer term, that deals with the vampires' "long game", is fascinating. I was so happy that we got to spend more time with Grant...he is just super intriguing to me and my favorite character. Grant gets a chance to show his human side in this book as well as demonstrate some somewhat disturbing magician's skills.

The only bad thing about this book was that it was over too soon. I can't wait to read the next book! I am also looking forward to checking out Vaughn's new young adult book "Voice of Dragons".

This book started out very slow with much of nothing happening until more than half the book. Then a lot happenend and then it slowed down again. I skipped several chapters to read the last one to find out what happened. A bit of a disappointment, but not enough to keep me from wanting to read the next installment. Just my opinion.

Fast paced, quick read at about 290 pages. Kitty gets in over her head on a reality tv show with a bunch of paranormal cast members and a stubborn skeptic. Has the usual humor/sarcasm, grittiness, vulnerability related to the characters, not just a shoot-em up urban fiction book. Cormac up for parole for good behaviour. Lots of characters make appearances from previous books, so you want to have read the other books in the series. Give this a solid 4 stars for entertainment, was more of a filler book with some bad stuff that builds an overall plot than a milestone book, expecting the next book to have a lot of changes in it...

The book was high energy and action packed, except the over all arc didn't move at all. Several minor characters make a showing, but really this was all about how Kitty is all take charge and fulcrum of the story. I gave it 2 1/2 stars since it was verging on a PWP(Plot? What plot?).

Kitty is stranded in the middle of nowhere after she agrees to do an All New Reality TV Show featuring Supernaturals. The cast of supernaturals that also agree are mostly ones we have seen before. From the last book Kitty Raised Hell we have Tina from Paradox PI then there is also the always great and mysterious Odysseus Grant and our other favorite radio show host from a previous book Ariel Priestess of the night. There are a few new ones two and some new vampires are put into the mix. However what everyone needs to find out before the end of the book is why they are really at this cabin in the middle of nowhere and what are they doing there. It was a highly entertaining book; Kitty's snarky attitude is top of the line as always however I gave it 3 starts because I felt the writing is a bit slow at parts and rather predictable.

As always, well written and I loved it. Moved the story along.

I have to respectfully disagree with those who had a problem with the killing of the good guys. Life isn't always kind to the good guys.
This is about racism and discrimination in all it's forms. Guilt by association and so forth. As in real life soldiers die on both sides. The loss only steels the survivors to fight harder. It's about understanding that sometimes we have to lead when we wish to hide away. That forces push us to accomplish things we never thought possible.
Take out the supernatural element and you have an age old fight. Good vs Evil or maybe the star bellied sneetches all over again.

Kitty and some super natural friends (who will be familiar to those who have read the previous books in the series) agree to spend a couple of weeks in a mountain cabin to film a reality show. Also included in the cast are a were-seal, a skeptic, and a pair of vampires with a hot young donor. When the film crew turns up dead and the producers disappear, Kitty and co. must defend themselves from unknown predators who want to eliminate all the cast members without even giving them a chance to speak at tribal council!

The first half of Kitty's House of Horrors is comedic, but the second half is dark and violent. This is the most suspenseful Kitty book yet! The book also offers some hints at the direction the series is going. A must-read for Kitty fans.

Urban Fantasy/ Paranormal addition to the Kitty the werewolf series. Kitty agrees to participate in a reality show, featuring Supernaturals. Except that it doesn't turn out the way it's supposed to. And, Cormac has a parole hearing. I found the first part of the book, the set-up for the action to be a little boring. The story picked up, along with the action. Lots of suspence, violence, some on Kitty's part, and a little mystery. Not the best Kitty tale, but OK. Some angst, and a happy ending. What I like about this series, is that Kitty hasn't changed too dramatically from who she was in the beginning of the series. I'll read the next.

Radio talk show host and werewolf Kitty Norville has reluctantly agreed to appear on a reality TV show featuring supernaturals. The group - 2 werewolves, a were-seal, two vampires with their human servant, a medium, a magician, a psychic and a ghosthunter - is sent to a remote mountain lodge, where they are to spend 2 weeks under cameras trying to convince skeptic author and paranormal debunker Conrad Garrett of the truth of their existence. But when the vampires' human and part of the production crew is found dead, it soon becomes apparent they have been tricked into a deadly cat-and-mouse game as they discover they are stranded with no power, phones or any easy way out, and hunters are waiting for them in the woods.

Carrie Vaughn scores another hit with the latest Kitty installment. A premise that could easily have degenerated into cliches under less skilled hands is developed into an exciting, suspenseful tale with no lack of dramatic character interaction, ending with plenty of fodder for the next books (yes, plural) in the series. I can hardly wait!

The first half is the build-up and backstory to the action. After that, boy-howdy! This is definitely the most violent of the series so far, high body count in this one. Cormac is out! Yeah!!! Nice setup for the next couple (or several?) books.

One thing i noticed about Carrie Vaughns "Kitty" series is she is not afraid to write about trajedy. The good guys aren't supposed to have anything "really" bad happen to them, but from Cormac ending up in jail(in a previous book), to many likable, strong characters getting murdered, Ms. Vaughn is not afraid to go there. The first 1/4 of the book is a little slow but after that it takes off like a silver bullet. I couldn't put it down until i finished it. Looking forward to the next one.

I almost did not buy this book because I was so disappointed in the last one. I was afraid that Ms. Vaughn had become like several other of my favorite authors and was just cranking them out with out a thought to content. I am so happy to be wrong. I really loved this book. I am only sorry I had it for over a month before I read it.

I really enjoyed the book! It definitely has some "hold your breath" moments. Kitty is a born leader and can get the job done.
