This was a very good fictional book about Emma, a Jew, during WWII.
She lives in Poland and this story details her life before and after she is smuggled out of the ghetto. It relates how she and some relatives survive, and the sacrifices they must make and the dangers they must face.

Amazing read by a fantastic author. I have read this and the sequel to this book and both blew my away. I was so engrossed that I finished it in a couple days. I'd absolutely recommend to anyone, especially if you enjoy stories set in the WW2 time period. Very historically accurate.

Excellent read about the Holocaust and the will to survive. Was sad to see the book end when it did. Wanted to know more of what happened to Emma and Lukasz.

An intriguing enough story line to keep you reading although a few of the scenerios are just a little too coincidental. Also the author needs to research more into the development of children. Anyway, all in all, it was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it.

Ok maybe its me but I really did not like the heroine in this book way to wishy washy,Is it wrong of me to actually like the Kommendant? the ending twist made him maniacal.(not believable yes he was supposed to be the villain} I did enjoy the secondary characters though. Overall they made the villains stupid and the heroine extremely lucky.I thought any of the consequences that happened to the characters as glossed over not realistically portrayed. I give this book a c+

I loved this book. If you are a fan of this genre, you'll love it. The characters drew you in and the story was moving. There were nights I couldn't put it down. I had already read The Diplomat's wife, not kknowing the stories tied in to each other. I wish I had read this one first.

really enjoyed this book. i can see where these people can have different feelings and how they had to react to there situations. what difficult times, what horror those people lived through.

I am such a fan of this book. I love WWII literature, both fiction and non-fiction, especially stories of the Resistance. This is the story of Emma Bau, a Jewish girl who winds up in the ghetto in Poland during the Nazi occupation. She lives there with her parents, although just weeks earlier she and Jacob, another Jewish member of the Resistance, were married. During the night, she is whisked away out of the ghetto and into the Krakow home of Jacob's Catholic cousin, where she takes on the name and persona of a Gentile and goes to work for a Nazi Kommandant in order to find out secrets of the occupation for the Resistance. The tension of her story, her relationship with the Kommandant who falls in love with her were enough to keep me reading into the night and thinking about this book when I wasn't reading it.
I already have the sequel to this book, and I most definitely recommend it for good reading and for its educational aspects about the Polish Resistance.

First, let me say that I don't think this plot is very original. It sounds a lot like the movie "Black Book." It's a Dutch film where the main character is a Jewish girl working for the resistance to the Nazi's movement. She works for the high-ranking Nazi and seduces him.
That's the plot line of "Kommandant's Girl" in a nutshell. In any case, it had a good premise I thought, but somehow fell kind of flat. The character of Emma/Anna was just not well developed. I felt nothing for her. Even with the background of something as profound as The Holocaust taking place around her I failed to care what happened to her. I really can't describe this lack of emotion except that I didn't feel like Emma/Anna could be a real person. It was obvious that she was a complete work of fiction and I just could not bring myself to feel any attachment to her. Because of this, I failed to have any attachment to the story and I feel like that's saying a lot for a Holocaust book.
Let's face it, if you can read a book about any part of The Holocaust and NOT be moved to tears at some point, it's not written very well. I've read YA books about the Holocaust that were better written than this one.
I was just so torn over this book. I think I finished it because I kept WANTING to like it. In the end I decided that I didn't. Everything that happened in this book was predictable and the predictability made it boring.

Easy reading. Could have been more in depth. Good relation to characters. Was easy to anticipate. No surprises.

I enjoyed this. I was surprised that I did as I tend to read more non-fiction. The characters were believable and the story kept my interest.
