I liked the first one, Casting Spells better. Laced with Magic is good in the sense there is lots of action, suspence and butt saving. What I didn't like: the trash talk from Luke's ex-wife, the answer to why the child was really there, the town's people back-stabbing, was the ex magical or not, and even more. Some was mildly explained towards the end and I thought perhaps the third book will cough up some answers. The complete surprise was the last sentence in the book. I actually said, "What!!!" out loud, and I was by myself. Now I can't wait for the third installment.
