First in the series. Great book

I was very disappointed in this book. The first I had read by this author. It was a mystery/romance. I felt like it was never really a good romance or a good mystery. It took 438 out of 440 pages to solve the mystery and the romance never really sparked.

Well-written, great period detail, and fascinating characters in this Regency romance.

No. 12 Montrose Place is to be the last bastion for Tristin Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, and his fellow secret agents. Tristin volunteers to oversee the renovations, and though he knows lust and a virtuous woman never mix, he finds himself entranced with his neighbor, Leonora Carling. When he discovers the lady snooping around the house he's intrigued.
Ever since Leonora refused an offer to sell their home, her family has been subjected to harassment. She suspects that the new owner of No. 12 might be responsible, but as soon as she meets Tristin she knows he's not the culprit. Tristin decides to investigate Leonora's situation and get to know the lady better. As they embark on solving the mystery, they get caught up in a highly passionate affair. But when Leonora refuses Tristin's offer of marriage, he must not only find the brigand, but also wage a campaign to win the lady's heart.
Now that the Cynsters are all settled, Laurens turns to the Bastion Club. With her hallmark extreme sensuality, knowledge of the era and delightful plotting, this is another exceptionally entertaining romance.

I have just recently read this book after having read someof the later Bastion Club novels. I loved reading about the Bastion Club coming into existence and learning the history of some of the fellow members. A great read in my book.
This book is superb! I'm KEEPING this one. :)
It's the first I've read by this author and I can't wait to get the next in the series. Well-written, excellent story, and well-defined characters.

Stephanie Lauren fans will enjoy this book as well as all the others she has published. I loved the humorous characters in this book as well as the mystery and hot love scenes!
I love the Bastion Club books. They have a mystery to solve along with the passion of a new found love.
I found the book repetative and boring. The story is good, just seems to be the same situations over and over. Hopefully someone will find it more interesting then I did :)
Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, never expected he'd need to wed within a year or forfeit his inheritance.
"It's a sad day when, having survived everything the French could throw at us, we, England's heroes, return home-only to face an even greater threat," laments Tristan, fourth Earl of Trentham, to his fellow ex-spies after they return from war with Napoleon to discover the sword of matrimony hanging over their heads. In response, the titled gentlemen set up the Bastion Club, a retreat where they can exchange intelligence about the eager-eyed damsels who are their latest challenge. This first installment in Laurens's new series focuses on Tristan, who must wed within a year or support his 14 maiden aunts without his inheritance. Little does he expect to find his future with Leonora Carling, neighbor to the Bastion Club and the victim of several recent home invasions. Intrigued by both Leonora and the suspicious events, Tristan bends his talents to uncovering the mystery burglar and to charming Leonora. Leonora, who has no use for marriage, may be new to the sexual tension vibrating between her and Tristan, but she's willing to explore further, believing that nothing permanent can come of it. When Tristan insists that she marry him, the battle of wills commences. Fans of Laurens's popular Cynster (The Perfect Lover, etc.) romances will expect the high adventure and steamy, sensual love scenes that are her signature, and they won't be disappointed by this solid, if conventional, offering.

Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, never expected he'd need to wed within a year or forfeit his inheritance. But he is not one to bow to the matchmaking mamas of the ton. No, he will marry a lady of his own choosing. And the lady he chooses is the enchanting neighbor living with her family next door. Miss Leonora Carling has beauty, spirit and passion; unfortunately, matrimony is the last thing on her mind ...
To Leonora, Tristan's kisses are oh-so-tempting, but once bitten, forever shy, she has determinedly turned her back on marriage. But Tristan is a seasoned campaigner who will not accept defeat. And when a mysterious man attempts to scare Leonora and her family from their home, Tristan realizes he's been given the perfect excuse to offer his services -- as protector, seducer and, ultimately, husband.

for a historical romance, she' good!
Seven Loyal Bachelors in Regency England form The Bastion Club. The Lady Chosen centers on Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, and his decision to marry his next-door neighbor rather than suffer at the hands of matchmakers.
I love every book I've read by Stephanie Laurens. She has a great sense of humor and her series are connected nicely.
Love this series!
I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in this series. This is #1 of the Bastion Club books.
Laurens has the touch - very good read.
I enjoyed this book.
Good addition to the Bastion Series.
Good addition to the Bastion Series.
Its a romance book what can I say
Great book. I didn't give it more stars just because I get a little tired of woman characters who rush right into danger because they are stubborn. If you want to make a strong woman character, give her common sense.

EXCELLENT! great story and very romantic
If you like Stephanie Laurens's other books, you'll love this one as well.
great read!
Wonderfully romantic escapism novel. The Bastion Club is a group of English gentlemen returned from the wars with Napoleon who all must marry. They form the Bastion Club and buy a residence in which to meet and share info on prospective brides and which debutantes and managing future mothers-in-laws to avoid. Of course there are mysteries which lead them to meet women they most likely would never have met in Almack's Assembly Room. The struggle between strong willed men and women ensue with lots of torrid romance thrown in.
Seven of London's most eligible bachelors band together to form the Bastion Club. This is the first story in this series of Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, finding his future wife in Leonara Carling. As Tristan tries to persuade Leonara to be his wife, someone is trying to scare Leonora and her family from their home.
A luscious romance from an author whose signature love scenes are ones to savor.
