I'm going to give this book just 3.5 stars, even though I liked it and will continue to read all Burrowes' books, without a doubt. It was a warm and sweet story, with likeable main characters, but there were no thrills, and not as sexy as some of her earlier books. This author likes to write hero-rescues-heroine-in-distress plots, but in this case, the so-called scandals and secrets that both of them had were flimsy and not all that scandalous(compared to the real dangers facing the heroine of "The Heir", for instance). It was just an excuse to contrive a marriage between them. That being said, I liked that they got married in the middle of the story, so we got to see them adjusting to married life together. And I love spending time with the whole Windham family, even if they're just sitting around eating breakfast together, and we get to see plenty of them here.

Better than previous book (Lady Maggie's Secret Scandal). Didn't quite have that "something" that the first 4 books did. I will admit I was worried about Joseph's secret(s) (I mean, really?!), but it ended well. I liked the reason behind them and it showed his compassion/kindness/empathy (rare for a guy in the time frame this book is set in). This was different and it worked in this one. I also enjoyed Louisa's secret and how it was embraced by Joseph. The big issue, for me, is it took forever to get to the point. I enjoyed the appearances of the rest of the family and their antics.

I've enjoyed this series so far. Grace Burrowes has such a talent for writing.
These characters are likable and I really like how she brings the other characters from other books back into the story.
I give it a 3.5 to 4 stars.

This is exactly what you hope to find when you read a holiday themed book. A real story, not a novella, with completely developed characters, a real plot, and it ties very naturally into the Christmas season. This is evidently book 6 of the Windham series and I haven't read any of the others. It didn't make any difference in my enjoyment of the story, just made me interested in reading the five previous books. My only complaint is that it was actually a bit long-winded, I think it could have been a bit shorter and still told the same lovely story.
