I really enjoyed the first half of this book, as the maid comes into her own as a person, and helps her mistress, Elizabeth Barrett, break free of her father's control. The second half is drearier and only gets more dreary, with lots of moves here and there around Europe, and the maid's growing disillusionment and realization that her life isn't living up to her dreams. Ultimately a little depressing.
I enjoyed this look at the life of a maid in Victorian era England. It wasn't cheerful but it was thought-provoking.
very well written and an enjoyable read
The ficitonal account of a woman who is lady's maid to Elizabeth Barrett. She helps her elope with Robert Browning and follows the couple on their travels. Interesting look into the class system that existed during this period.

A well written book about the Brownings, from the viewpoint of Elizabeth Barret Browning's maid. It's touching and insightful.
