This is part of a series, just a great series about life and it's pitfalls and triumphs.
Not alot of steamy sex in this series, but still a wonderful story along the lines of the Rosamund Pilcher books.

A very sweet story about two different people trying to escape their real lives to regroup. Wiggs weaved a great cast of characters around a story that slowly unfolds.
THINGS I LIKE:
I loved how incredibly giving Kate was. It's not everyday where someone would open their home to an unknown teenager, especially since she has a school-age son already. I also love how honest she is and that most of the time she speaks her mind. I felt like she had to do a lot of the chasing in the relationship though so that reflected poorly on JD.
THINGS I DIDN'T CARE FOR:
The ending of Wiggs novels are always very abrupt for me. It's like once the proposal is made, the story ends. In her series, I know she continues the story by revisiting certain couples. But I think since JD was so worried about how Kate and the family would react to fame, it would have been nice to see how they dealt with it together.
Even though I really liked Callie, I have to say that she was extremely well balanced for someone having gone through such a traumatic life. In fact, I think she was easier to deal with than most teenagers. Her character was just to ideal for me.
Overall, it was a nice easy read. I enjoyed it and will continue to search out Wigg's books.

Kate Livingston returns to her family's lakeside cottage every summer. But this year things get a bit more interesting with the arrival of intriguing new neighbor, JD Harris arrives at a nearby cottage. Although she is a confirmed single mother and knows little JD's past, Kate is soon drawn into the sweetness of a summer romance and discovers the passion of a lifetime.
Snuggle up with an apple, a cover, in a big chair and enjoy this good story.
Excellent book

This is the 2nd book by Susan Wiggs that I've read, and I'm glad I discovered her books. Lakeside Cottage is a sweet, soft, summer read perfect for those slow, soft, summer days.
If you trust your heart, you'll always know who you are...

The love of a single mother and a Washington DC paramedic
Another great novel by this author! Kate returns to her familys lakeside cottage to mind a mysterious man and romance.
Another wonderful read by Susan Wiggs! This book was really good!
This was a wonderful story. I enjoyed every minute of the book. There were places when I laughed out loud and places where I cried a little. Not only was the story great but there are recipes in the back of the book. I will defiantly use the one for s'mores.
another great summertime read!
Such a great summer read!
An excellent summer read! Nice style!
I love Susan wiggs. Her characters are so real; you feel as if you know them.
A wonderful Susan Wigg's book about trust & love. It also delves into childhood diabetes. A great summer read!!
Great book. A new author to me Really enjoyed it
SUch a heartwarming story of a single Mother.Written by the creative hands of Wiggs it is not only filled with romance but true to life struggles. I gained some real insight to Mothers with emotional challenges. This is a must read. So glad I found it on PBS!
Another Wiggs book that I wasn't overly thrilled with. This one is cute and a fun beach read, however it's forgettable. I had to read the synopis just to jog my memory of the ploy and even then it's a still not jumping back at me. If you're looking for something to read in the airport or on the beach, this is an OK choice.. if you're looking for substance, keep browsing.
Review on the cover says it's the perfect beach read and I have to agree!
A very good book
tears and laughter....stroy from the heart
Great story about families and love.
Wonderful read but a little slow.
Kate is the mother of a challenging 10 yo son. For the first summer, they are spending the summer at the family cabin without Kate's brother and his family or her mother. But as it turns out, they aren't all alone. A troubled teenager joins them as does a rugged stranger who doesn't seem to have any trouble dealing with Kate's boy.
Great beach read.
Single mom spends the summer with her son at the family lake house and meets a moody man living down the lane. They fall in love. Throw in a runaway teen and lots of day to day this and that. Good read but a tad dull.
This is a great love story. A story about many secrets and second chances. A must read by fans of contemporary romance stories.
**** - - really good!
GREAT BOOK!! I love this author!!
I did not want to put this book down. I wanted to know everything.
Kate Livingston is planning on spending the summer at her family's cottage as she always does, but her brother and mother have moved away, so she and her son will be there alone. And she has lost her job as a columnist. J.D. Harris is using his best friend's cottage to lay low. A military medic and Green Beret, he was in the right place at the right time to save the life of the president. A national hero, his face is plastered all over the TV, newspapers, and entertainment rags, and his life is no longer his own. J.D and Kate are attracted to each other, but nothing is simple. Kate's son is difficult. In retreat, she has no idea who J.D. really is, and when he realizes that Kate is a journalist, he is angry and disappointed. Wiggs' thoroughly captivating tale draws readers into her characters' lives and minds in a way that makes them real and true and unforgettable.
Each summer Kate Livingston returns to her family's lakeside cottage, a place of simple living and happy times. A place where she hopes her sky little boy can blossom. Life gets intersting when J.D. arrives, a Washington, D.C. paramedic who prevented a terrible tragedy. Very enjoyable, easy read.
An good read, BUT I was disappointed in the lack of (if any) research she did for her character JD. Picked up the book because JD was a Special Forces medic. My husband was an SF medic for 18 years. I laughed every time she brought up JD's military history. It was so wrong as to be ludicrous.
This is a great book. I was excited, yet sad, to finish it. It was over too soon.
Great summer read.
A compelling story about a single Mom who spends a summer finding herself, a Ex Green Beret who is fleeing from a media storm and a runaway teen.

JD has good reason for being secretive. In a moment of sheer bravery, the Washington DC paramedic prevented a terrible tragdy. Overnight the intensely private man becomes a national hero. The media blitz causes him to escapes to a friend's lakeside cottage and there he meets Kate and her son and remembers the joy of small pleasures.
A great summer read - quick and enjoyable

Good story. I enjoyed it very much.
Great book
The summer at the lake is supposed to be a time of healing for Kate, but the handsome and intriguing JD plus the wounded teenaged Callie make the summer more of a challenge, and more rewarding, than could ever have been expected.
just ok
Awesome love story great writer. A little less racy than Nora Roberts.
Perfect beach read!
Excellent book. I loved it!
Love Susan Wiggs. This book is her normal feel-good read. Great character development and feelings that we can relate to well.
excellent!!
Well done romance, good characters.
I love her books.
really enjoyed the book, finished it in just a few hours!
I did not like this book which for me was a shock because I love the aunthor! I couldnt get into it, I loved JD, and kate's son and Callie! Callie story was so horrible that I cried after I read those pages, watching her with Kate's son was so comforting and moving at teh same time. JD deserve better than Kate. She was too much, I am not sorry he hid his secret, I would too if I was going through what he did.
Susan Wiggs has done it once again!! She peaks my interest with the first page and keeps it all through the book. The only thing wrong with this author is that once I get started on one of her books I stay up way to late because I can't put it down.
I really enjoyed this book, as I do all of Susan Wiggs book.
Very good book.
