I have not yet seen this book but there is an essay reviewing it in The Economist, 11/2/2019. Dual Destiny, p. 77. Rather than the usual sob story offered today, the author brings out what tough customers the Indians were. These Sioux claimed a large territory from the Mississippi westward after running out other Indians and extracted tolls from those wishing to cross.
