Richard Jury's friend and sidekick Melrose Plant finds himself embroiled in a haunting case of murder, past and present. As always, Plant's Aunt Agatha makes a pest of herself, as Plant and and Jury try to solve this mystery which takes place in Cornwall. The eccentrics who populate Plant's life are back to add to the enjoyment.

i do not need to talk abotu this book even, all i have to say about it is that is written by Martha Grimes, which makes it special enough for anyone to want... Martha Grimes is a great writer. No Doubt there...
Quirky characters help Scotland Yard's Superintendent Richard Jury solve murders (and entertain along the way).
Above average Grimes novel.
Excellent mystery!
Martha Grimes brings the word cozy to a new level. It is more than a flash in the pan simple cozy however, as her books all have such depth and description along with historic information embedded in them. Delightful and warm, and as always, Richard Jury shines as the kind of man you just wish you had as a best friend if not husband. The only thing about this one in the Richard Jury series is the actual murder victims and cause and reasoning is hard to deal with. Otherwise a fabulous diversion into another world always awaits with Martha Grimes.
Melrose does most of the sleuthing in this book. Richard Jury doesn't arrive until the last third of the book. Some interesting background stories reveal more about the regular characters in this Grimes series. It's set in wonderful Cornwall where the land lends itself to mysterious events.
A wonderful Martha Grimes mystery. I even found the movie, The Uninvited 1944, to watch after reading the book.
This book is somewhat worn but easily readable.
