This review contains spoilers.

I have to say I was a little bit disappointed. This entire series is heavy on long detailed descriptions of the environment and culture which I like but, this one went over the line - I felt like she sacrificed her characters and plot for sake of long repetative descriptions of landscape, location and culture.
The story line didn't seem to have a point and just wandered along. Some of the major story events were caused by what I considered actions that were not believable or were out of character for the people doing them.
I was also really looking forward to finding out what happened to the people left behind and was disappointed that it was skimmed over. She never addressed at all what happened to Alya's clan.
I did enjoy reading this book, but in general I thought it could have been done in either half as many pages or with much more development of what I think could have very interesting characters.

Picked this up in the airport. Lesson learned? NEVER buy a book at the airport. By the time you realize that it's slightly less exciting than watching mold grow on bread, you're trapped on a plane for 6 hours...

Second lesson learned? Just because you've liked earlier books in a series doesn't mean you'll like the latest.

I tried and got to the 1st summer meeting and then had to bail. Luckily my friend filled me on what I missed and it isn't much.

All It can say is really Jean? Really?

I bought this book on the assumption that since it was written by the author of the series that it would be at least comparable to the other books. It wasn't.

I very, very rarely skip parts in a book. I found that I skipped entire chapters, due to the extreme repetitiveness and blather about issues that had already been covered within the book, let alone the series itself. The tiny, tiny bit of 'story' that was included within the text was pitiful, in that it was not believable considering the characters anyone who has read the series knows so well. I stuck with the book to the bitter end, in hopes that something would happen that would make it all worthwhile, but was disappointed.

I feel like this book wasn't even written by Jean, and if it was, she wasn't in her right mind. I bought the book because waiting for it on PBS was taking too long, and now I wish I'd waited. I don't think I've ever been this let down by an author.
