Engaging, but a little depressing

While this book is certainly engaging and draws the reader in, the sense of hopelessness (while realistic) is a downer. The world reminds me of "The Lost World" by Doyle with more of an evolutionary bent to it. I'm glad I read the work, but it'll probably be awhile before I pick it up again.
