While all the descriptive text in the book is lyrical and absorbing, I found the plot somewhat dull and plodding. The writing is gorgeous but it did not take me anywhere. There is a good story here but you rather have to plough through it. Disappointing ending. From reviews I had read, I was expecting so much more.

If you miss the kind of romantic suspense plied by Phyllis A. Whitney etc., then you'll want to at least give this book a go. Lawrenson has a gift for rich language that engages all the five senses and creates a sense of place - so important to this genre. Ultimately, though, I felt the story did not justify a book of this length (almost 400 pages) and it lacked a big "reveal." If you don't need it to be a true whodunit, you should be fine.
At the beginning this book was difficult to get into and follow, since it was narrating two stories at once. Each chapter represents a different personality. However, once you are able to sort out the characters, the story becomes more and more intriguing...and then just down right creepy! It became a real page-turner for me - I nearly had given up on it and was so glad that I kept with it. It will give you the shivers. Highly recommend! D.
I recently read this book, and found it to be
very interesting. It is a mixture of mystery, love,
and intrigue. Very well-researched, with good
background of Southern France, lavender cultivation
and uses, and customs of the local people. Informative yet so interesting. It keeps the reader turning the pages until the very end.
