This book contains over 70 traditional designs and projects to piece by machine and quilt in your lap. Georgia Bonesteel makes quilting faster and easier with her portable lap quilting techinique. You can create elegant traditional quilts in small, manageable sections. Sew together the machine pieced, hand quilted blocks and you have a wonderful array of quilt or small projects. Quilters can store their frames and hoops, along with the complicated calculations called for in other methods of sectional quilting. This book offers over 70 traditional quilt designs along with full-sized, interchangeable patterns for making each of them. Full-sized quilting patterns will guide your stitches, and you'll have practical advice on everything from making a foolproof knot to ending a line of quilting. This book is as much fun for the beginner as well as the experienced quiltor.

All of the quilts in this book are based on a 12" square. The book includes 70 patchwork designs for traditional quilt blocks. Included are instructions on how to piece a block, quilt a block, and put a quilt together. Several quick quilted projects are included such as tote bags, handbags, placemats, aprons, photo album covers, and many others.

I found this book to be well written and informative. The quilt patterns range from simple to complex for beginners and the more experienced quilter. A great addition to any library.

This is an excellent book that moves quilting from a solely 'Work at Home in the sewing room' activity to a 'Go anywhere and work when you have a few free moments' pastime. The quilts are constructed in separate blocks, each block consisting of a top pieced layer, a middle batting layer, and a backing layer. Only once each 3-layer section is complete are the blocks joined to make the full quilt.
Almost all the author's descriptions and directions are clear and concise, and the many drawings and colorful photographs make the book almost a bit of art as well as a workbook.
