Started this book in the morning and finished it in the afternoon. Once again a wonderful installment in the Rizolli & Isles series.
In this chapter of the series, a young boy's foster parents are killed just years after his parents were killed. It is soon discovered that there are other kids out there that have suffered the same fate beginning the riveting drama that is "Last to Die".
The investigation takes lots of twists and turns til it comes to a very rewarding end. If you have enjoyed the series thus far, then I believe you like this one.

I've been a fan of the Rizzoli & Isles series since the very first book, THE SURGEON. I think Tess Gerritsen is an intelligent writer who grabs you by the shirt from the opening chapter and doesn't let you go.
LAST TO DIE is book #10 of the series, but it's been feeling like a series that's probably run its creative course. I've enjoyed THE SINNER, VANISH, and THE KEEPSAKE...all the others fell flat. The plots tend to feel more contrived than clever, and all suspense and tension is lost when the principle characters (Maura and Jane) are constantly put in life-threatening situations the reader should be smart enough to know they'll always survive.
This happens repeatedly in this installment, and it's long since gotten old for me. After a strong beginning, the most interesting aspect of this convoluted plot was the direction of Dr. Maura Isles' life, and whether she'll accept an offer and leave Boston or not....That's really all that's bringing me back for book #11.
I give LAST TO DIE a C+.

Although I am more familiar with the television series, author Gerritsens tenth novel featuring Detective Jane Rizzoli and ME Maura Isles, is a very enjoyable thriller. The plot revolves around three unique orphans: Claire, Teddy, and Will, all of whom have survived their families (both natural and foster) being killed. Teddy is taken to a secure location in Maine: Evensong, a school for survivors that has connections to the mysterious Mephisto Society. Evensong is also where Julian Perkins, Mauras friend, attends school and has become the leader of the Jackals, a criminology club (dismissed as CSI High School by Rizzoli).
Rizzoli is the only one who reaches Teddy, who has survived the deaths of his foster family in Boston. Ill try to keep this review spoiler-free, but suffice it to say that the tragedies the three orphans have survived appear somewhat interconnected, as the plot winds towards a tense, violent conclusion. The secret that bind the three together goes back both in time and in space.

If you like Rizzoli & Isles TV show, you will like this book. It is a bit "stranger" than Tess Gerritsen's other R&Is but you have the same characters. As with any series of books (as this is the 11th R&I's) you really need to read the others to know some of the references that are made to previous happenings.
I can't wait for the next book. Tess Gerritsen has, and holds, my attention through out all her books.

Detective Jane Rizzoli is called into work to help on a homicide. A family has been slaughtered. Fourteen-year-old foster child Teddy Clock is the lone survivor. Teddy hid during the carnage, running to the neighbors when the coast was clear. As Jane questions Teddy, she finds that he was placed in foster care two years ago after his own family was killed in an explosion. When someone tries to kill Teddy once again, Jane contact Maura Isles who is at a boarding school in Maine visiting a young friend. This school has heavy security, so Jane decides to place Teddy there. When she arrives, Maura informs her that there are two students at the school with stories similar to Teddy. Jane and Maura work to uncover who is trying to kill three young teenagers who seemingly have nothing else in common.
This story grabbed me right from the start. Three kids have each had their families and foster families murdered. They are from different parts of the country and do not know each other. There were lots of twists and turns in this book. I had a hard time putting it down. My rating: 5 Stars.

My wife watches a great deal of television. She discovered Rizzoli & Isles on TNT. We started watching it and liked it. As usual, I then looked up the author of the books upon which it is based. I ordered the first one from Paper Back Swap. I liked it and proceeded to put together the entire series. Each book has an interesting twist, or several. As a retired police sergeant, detective, corporal, and patrolman, I have had the opportunity to interview some psychopaths and I find Gerritsen's villains to be believable. If you like mysteries, these books will satisfy.
Another winner by Tess Gerritsen! It kept you thinking and involved all the way through.
As usual, the Rizzoli & Isles series does not dissapoint. Book 10 was fast-paced and entertaining all the way through to it's surprise ending.
Another great Rizzoli & Isles! I can't wait to read the next one.
