After reading the description I thought this book would be a lot like The Perfect Storm. I was wrong. It was a great story and a truly touching and emotional book.

While the story's main plot revolves around Bud and the perilous situation he is in there is so much more to this one. As Bud and Carolina go through their day they recall memories from their past. Not all of them are good, but they all show how life can take it's toll on a marriage. How just loving someone may not always be enough and how the heart works in mysterious ways.

The writing was great. Mary Alice Monroe did a great job capturing the dialect and portraying it in her writing. The two main characters are very well developed and the secondary characters aren't just two dimensional. The flashbacks were done perfectly and they didn't make the story feel choppy.

Even at almost 400 pages it didn't really take me that long to read. The story keeps you connected and wanting to know more. This one was really good, I'm adding her last one to my To Read list!

I usually love this author's books, but this one was not one of her best efforts. It's basically a love story revolving around the shrimping business in SC. It was a good story, just kind of bland and didn't hold my interest like her other books.

I have read and loved all of Mary Alice Monroe's books. I didn't love this one. It was just an okay read for me. A bit bland and boring, it was not as engaging as her previous works. The characters, nor the story, never came alive for me. This one is forgetable, but I look forward to her next work.

I have a problem with Mary Alice Monroe's books. I can't put them down! This book was ne exception to that rule. The characters were so real. I feel like I've known Carolina and Bud forever. Last Light Over Carolina is a beautiful love story, but it is more than just a romance novel. The story is very compelling, told in part in flashbacks that added to the entire thread of the novel. The flashbacks did not make the story choppy. They made it flow. I highly recommend this book!

Another southern story by Mary Alice Monroe, a favorite author who knows much of the subjects she writes about. This is a tale of Bud and Carolina, told in present day and in a lot of flashbacks of the years of their long life together. It is a tale of small town, and shrimp fishing and things that tear families apart and brings them together. I thoroughly enjoyed her story.
