I really love Denise Hamilton's take on Los Angeles and how she explores the neighborhoods east of the beach, away from the celebrity madness. Also, that Eve is such a smart, yet real character, who makes very human mistakes.
In this book, Eve investigates looks into the disappearance of a child who goes missing during a shooting at LAX and gets pulled into the shady world of Customs, the INS, overseas adoptions and unaccompanied minors.

Edgar nominated author Denise Hamilton writes another novel featuring Eve Diamond, reported. She's a mix of street smarts, sass, and vulnerability.
Shadowing a customs official for a story, Eve is a witness when gunfire erupts at LAX. A beautiful Asian woman is killed, and her little girl is swept away by the INS. Eve suspects the todler is being used by smugglers who trade in human lives.
Good book. Great story. I love the Eve Diamond books.
Denise Hamilton's Eve Diamond series is an exciting and educational mystery in and about Los Angeles. Excellent read.
This was my first Eve Diamond mystery. It didn't blow me away, but I was impressed by the story and technique, and enjoyed the different take on LA than most stories take. I'll look for more ED books here and see if any plots suck me in for a trade.
