You'll need to have read the first two in this series - Directive 51 and Daybreak Zero - if you're going to have any idea what's happening here. And fair warning, the title of this book tells you right up front what's going to happen to the good guys. I gotta say, this does not feel like the end of the story: Barnes throws in a little twist at the last minute (I wasn't surprised btw) which opens up a whole new plot he can run with. The first book was an interesting mix of politics and apocalypse; gradually it shifted more towards the kind of unending battle scenes you find with S.M. Stirling. Definitely worth reading if you like apocalypse fiction.
