This book was the first I had heard of this trilogy. The characters in this book are of a Norse Myth culture, which I am very interested in to begin with. The story is compelling and the rest of the series is just as good. I would recommend this book to any fantasy writer who wants a new story that has not been told in any book I have read before.

Reichert's storytelling is still excellent, and I liked the way that the novel drew on Nordic mythology. However, I never found myself liking the main character of the book.
