Remember the days when reading a romance was all about the romance, and not down-and-dirty, no-holds-barred sex scenes?

This newest book by Jude Deveraux is an enjoyable afternoon of reading. Jocelyn has inherited a lovely old mansion near Williamsburg, and upon arrival meets two men: one that was recommended as Mr. Right, and one that is so obviously wrong. While there are no surprises, reading the book is time well spent. The characters are likable. Lavender Morning is reminiscent of "Sweet Liar", though "Sweet Liar" is the better of the two.

This book has parallel love stories, one about the present day heroine, Joce, and one about her grandmother figure, Edi. I actually liked the grandmother's story better because there are a lot of family secrets that have been passed down to the current generation, and at times I was confused about the connections between the characters. In contrast, the WWII era story was clear, exciting, and romantic. The current day issues are all made clear by the end of the book, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. SPOILER ALERT However, there is one huge missing issue about why a mother who knew she gave birth "on her death bed" didn't ever try to look for her child when she ended up living. If she knew who her child was, how could she not have known who her granddaughter was? Maybe there will be more info about this is a later book, but is seems like a big loose end to leave hanging.

Jocelyn was totaly unike her father's new wife and daughters. She was quiet and bookish and lonely - until she met an elderly lady who became her mentor; and, when she died left her an estate and a puzzle.

Compared to the rest of Jude Deveraux's books, Lavendar Morning was really not that exciting. It was a good book however, but not one I would be excited about. Hopefully the rest of the series will be more eventful.

Reading Lavender Morning recalled what a great time I had when I first discovered Deveraux many years ago. She's still the same, delivering fun, romance, witty dialogue ... a treat.

i really liked this book. It was not the best she has ever done and definitely not the worst. I agree with another reviewer that the ending seemed very rushed together and some parts just didn't seem to fit. However there were parts I was laughing out loud and other parts I wanted to throw it out of frustration because some parts were very slow. I am not a huge fan of Jude Deveraux's modern books, her historical seem better to me. Starting the sequel tonight hoping it's even better!

I really liked the characters in this book.
It was a little difficult to get all the names and
how they were related at first, but after I figured
them out, I loved how they tormented one another.
Just like a regular family

Jude Deveraux does it again!!! Not since her Montgomery/Taggart family saga has she brought charaters to life that you want to keep visiting. I really like this book. It is well written and the charaters make you care about them. The town is charming and the plot twist keep you guessing until the very end.

I love Jude Deveraux. I haven't read her in a long time but I enjoyed reading this story very much. The first book in the Edilean series is full of curves that will surprise you and prompt you to continue reading. Once you start reading you can't put it down!

Every book that I have read by Jude Deveraux is wonderful. They have romance, mystery and surprise endings. Lavender Morning was excellent. I could not put it down. The characters were very real and I felt all their emotions. The ending was a surprise both happy and sad. I am looking forward to finding out what happens with Luke and Edi. I can't wait to read the series.

As always, Jude Deveraux writes a great story. Really two stories in one.

I could hardly put this book down and I can't wait for the next in the Edilean series.
