Another fabulous read from Ms. Hendricks - with the potential for a sequel. Sunny Cooper grew up in a commune in New Mexico. Her younger sister dies in a freak accident, her father abandons the family, and she has an uneasy relationship with her mother. At eighteen, she leaves her past behind her and settles in Albuquerque, where she makes a living doing odd jobs and voice-overs. She lives with a man who is not what he seems, and when he is killed in accident, Sunny flees once again. She makes her new home in the town of Harmony on San Miguel Island.
Filled with wonderful characters and sense of place, I highly recommend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel so that we can continue with Sunny on her journey as she continues to put her life back together.

Great read. New author for me and what a great find. If you like jodi piccoult, chris bohjalian, and others with interesting topics, personal charachters that come alive, and passion - this is a good start. Can't wait to read another of her books.
Absolutely loved it. As other reviewers suggested, the writing reminds me a lot of Barbara Kingsolver, who I love. This is a wonderfully written women's story about a girl who grows up in a commune in NM, a romance, and a mystery. The characters are great and it brought back a lot of memories.
