This book was thoroughly enjoyable...highly recommended! It had me from the first page and it was hard to put down. Sad to think that it is based on a true story.

Gosh I loved this book!! This is my first Susan Carol McCarthy. I'm wondering what took me so long to discover her. I'm going to try and tell you what I can without giving to much of the story away. This story takes place in the south during the summer of 1951. It's a story of shattering confrontations with racial prejudice, injustice,& facing the truth. It is pitting neighbor against neighbor. I absolutely loved the characters. I laughed, I cheered them on, & I sobbed. I really sobbed!! I hated to see the end coming & I wanted to read it all over again. If you liked To Kill A Mocking Bird you'd like this read.

Thoroughly loved this book. A story of a young girl's experience with hate and bigotry. Wonderfully shows that what true courage and standing up for what is right and true can mean. Tragically tells the ugly story of how unreasonable hate can destroy lives. Beautifully written.
