The book doesn't tie in as well with the previous one - I was looking for it to pick up where the first book "Charleston" left off, but it was a good read and really covered a lot of history after the Civil War. The characters were vivid and, at the end, it all finally came together. Only then could I figure out what happened to the heroine in the first novel.
The Tradd story goeson. In this book we follow Garden Tradd through her life. From Charleston, to all around the world and back again to Charleston.
An interesting view of southern society beginning in 1900 Charleston. Written by the same author who wrote the sequel to Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind. A selection of the Doubleday Book Club and the Literary Guild. It took a while for me to get into- but gradually picked up the pace.
Follows a South Carolina family through triumph and tragedy from Reconstruction through the Great Depression.
