I first started this series when I was 11. It was facinating then... however, from a Christian standpoint, I don't really see that the series has so much meritt as I originally gave them. They ARE novels... and so many Christians act like the end of the world will be like this word for word, almost to a damaging extent. The fact is the truth does NOT lie between the covers of this series. The truth is that we cannot even fathom what God has in store, which is why I believe the Bible has been written in the way it has been. So many things in it are a mystery because we are only finite and cannot truly fathom what lies in the words. I, unlike most Christians, do not believe that the book of Revelation was meant to be taken literally, which is exactly what these books do.
They are harmless, intersting reads. However, they do not contain much moral merrit, which is surprising in a Christian novel.

I am new to the genre of Christian Fiction, and found this book at a used bookstore, not knowing anything about it at all. The only idea I had from skimming the description on the back cover and opening to the artwork in the front cover was that I had a vague idea it was about a pilot searching for his family who disappeared while he was on a trans-Atlantic flight. I picked it up after a long day at work, expecting to read for about 30 minutes then fall asleep. I was hooked from the start and read at least 10 chapters on the first night, long after I should have been asleep. For about four days afterwards, thoughts of the book invaded my day, every moment that I was not concentrating on something else I kept thinking about it. I couldn't pick it back up to read it for about four days because I was absolutely shaken by it. The extreme emotions and the utter violence of some of the descriptions, as well as the exploration of faith in a time of desperation and horror, frightened and intrigued me. After I calmed down enough to let the story back into my head, I devoured the book in days (at the pace I read, it usually takes me weeks to finish even a 350-page book). Then I started ordering and reading each of the other books in the series in sequence, not even allowing myself to read a description or summary of any book before reading it in hopes I would not have the story spoiled by reading any giveaways to the plot. It was as consuming as I have heard people describe the TV series "Lost" ... who lives, who dies, whose allegience is tested, who is subjected to violence, who falls in love, who is still standing at the end of the book for the next one. I am about a third of the way through book 6 now, and still just as enthralled. To be honest, I don't know how to disect elements such as probability of the plot, development of the characters, believability, holes in the story, blah blah blah. Who cares? Go along for the ride. It's like an action movie in print.

What a wonderful book! It was an easy read and a great story. You develop a relationship with these characters, you find yourself searching for the "answers" with them. When you read this book, I guarantee you that you will hurry on to the next book in the series until you have completed them all. They are amazing books, full of many truths. A must read.

Wonderful book! My husband who isn't a reader couldn't put down this book or any of the others that go with the series! A must read for everyone!

I decided to try it to see what it was about. I couldn't get into it, but know alot of others who really liked the books. I think it was the way it was written and not the story itself that I just didn't like.

This is probably one of the worst books I've ever read. From the beginning I knew what was going to happen, and half-way through the book the "climax" is given away before you get to the end. I really wanted to like this book, but at the end I just kept thinking I wasted my time.
As for the writing itself, the characters are standard cardboard cutouts, the dialogue is subpar, and the writing is dry.

This is the first book in the Left Behind Series; these books are great and highly addictive! Once you start, you'll want to read all of them! Tells the story of the world beginning with the rapture of Christians; focuses on those "left behind", specifically Rayford Steele, his daughter Chloe, Buck Williams, and new characters who are continuously introduced.

Action-packed and fast-paced novel of what could happen when Christ raptures the faithful. First of twelve novel series. Great read!!

Brilliantly written. You'll be hooked after the first 5 minutes.

The Fundemental background to the series introducing all charaters and how being LEFT BEHIND in the time of coming of christ, will effect their choices. This book is the first in the series of 12.
Great book. Very biblical.

By far the best series ever written!

I was hoping this would be a really smart, thought-provoking novel about religion and biblical thought. Suffice it to say, that's not what this book is about. While the premise is interesting, the writing is painfully basic and I agree with reviewers who found the content unnecessarily offensive (stereotypes of gender, nationality and religion abound). The apocalyptic theme kept me interested, but I would caution potential readers to know what they're getting into.

I'm not religious but truly enjoyed this book. You don't have to be a believer in the "Rapture".

I have read through this series more than once, and though the first book may not be thouroughly engaging, it is a good start to a wonderful series. You will become attatched to the characters and will cry with them, laugh with them, and feel with them. It is truly a magnificent story.

Excellent series! Book one is a little slow, but after that watch out! These books are powerful! This is my all time favorite Christian series. This series is the reason I was saved. It really gives you an understanding of the book of Revelation.

If you are looking for the "answer" to it all, you are looking in the wrong place. The authors of this series don't have God's mouth to their ears telling them exactly how the earth is going to end, etc.etc.etc., and finding the answer to prophecy, well, you might want to just put the book down and back away.
If, however, you are looking for an entertaining read based on Biblical scripture that will make you think twice before you keep that extra $5 the Wal-mart clerk handed you by mistake, then start reading now.
I don't claim to be a Bible scholar, but I do know what I've read and the authors do a great job basing this series on the Christian beliefs and Bible, and definitely had me on the edge of my seat.
I recommend this series.

Awesome...can't wait to read the nest one.
This is a book that is marketed to all and so it is a pretty easy read. Not the best book I have ever read but not the worst. It has a pretty even writing style that semi-hides the fact that they want you to become a born again Christian. But what else would you expect from a book that is about the last days of Earth?

I was a little hesitant to read these books as I didn't know what to expect. The more I read and heard about them, the more interested I became. Putting aside the backgrounds (and perhaps intentions) of the authors, I am hooked on this series. Religion and beliefs aside, this book remains to have a great 'what if' factor. I'm currently on the 3rd book in the series and sometimes have to pinch myself at all the similarities in what I'm reading and what's really happening in the world today.

A fascinating and engaging premise, but unfortunately the characters lacked depth, and the emotional responses to personal loss world-changing events were too uncomplicated and predictable.

Jenkins and LaHaye weave a compelling story of a very believeable potential "going-down" of end times events as prophesied in sacred scriptures of Judeo-Christian faiths. Unforgettable characters are teamed with a thrilling and convoluted plot, timed against the chaotic backdrop of the Rapture and its aftermath. Highly recommended as a work of fiction-this series is hard to put down. Prepare for a case of done-in-a-day reading--and be prepared to want to read them again.

I loved this book! I am fascinated with the end times prophesies in the Bible, so this book naturally captivated me from page one. The book tends to sound a little preachy at times, and may irk adamant non-believers (although they might not be inclined to pick up this book anyway)
I found it to be a good read, and look forward to reading more in the series.

Whether or not you believe in the Bible, Left Behind does make for an interesting tale of comfort through crisis (especially post 9/11), conspiracy, a father's relationship to his daughter, and how a newsman deals with removing his feelings to get to a story. The best way to read this series is as a fictional novel in which extraordinary events have happened, people will start to believe in religion. Details are taken out of the Book of Revelation and fiction is added to make it an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the book and the and the rest of the series intense action and feeling which makes them page turners.

I found this book at goodwill while hunting for reading material. It was in pristine condition, obviously not touched. I was in a hurry and didn't realize when I bought it that it was a Christian book. I'm not Christian anymore and I never believed in the rapture. I figured why not give it a try anyway since it has such great reviews. After all, with so many sequels, it has to be good.
The beginning of the book held my interest for a while. It is light reading and obviously created so that anyone could read it. It did not hold my interest for very long after the beginning and by the middle of the book, I was done. I could not force myself to read any more of it.
If you are looking for Christian propaganda and you don't mind the fact it could be read by a third grader, then maybe you will like it.

I will preface my review by stating that I am not a Christian, so I read this from the viewpoint of someone who is vaguely familiar with the Book of Revelations, and not a believer.
Left Behind is really interesting! The authors imagine what would happen if the Book of Revelations kicked in today, starting with the Rapture. The authors write with zest, detail, and authenticity. I liked it enough to "order" the second and third books in the series.
If I was christian (lower case intentional) this book might give me a reason to become a Christian (more faithful).

I bought this book because of all the buzz I heard about it. Even as I was buying the book, people at the bookstore commented on it, saying how much they liked the series.
I was hugely disappointed. I was hoping for a book that addressed the endtime prophecies of the Bible in an intelligent way. This is not that book. I couldn't even finish it. When I got to the part about the miracle fertilizer that turned Israel into a virtual greenhouse, I gave up. This was only about 8 pages into the book. I just found the idea of a "miracle" fertilizer too silly and the explanation of Israel's newfound peace and prosperity too pat.
Yes, this book is packed full of drama and angst. But it is built on a foundation of nonsense. I couldn't swallow it. But lots have and loved it.

Although a little slow at first, this book is a must read for Christians and non-Christians alike. Though it was written in 1995 and many things have happened since then, this book deals with the what-ifs of the Rapture and the coming of Jesus Christ for his followers. With masterful storytelling that really DOES keep you turning the pages and a firm understanding of what the End Times could really be like, this should be madatory reading for members of the Christian Faith worldwide.

In one cataclysmic moment, millions around the globe disappears.
Vehicles, suddenly unmanned, careen out of control. People are terror stricken as loved ones vanish before their eyes.
In the midst of global chaos, airline captain Rayfor Steele must search for his family, for answers, for truth. As devastating as the disappearances have been, the darkest days may lie ahead.

I simply loved it!!!
WOW! That is what I said when I first started this series a few years ago. It was so great, that I couldn't wait to go and buy the next book. It is written so well, that you look forward to reading what happens to each character. Sometimes I found myself skipping to the next chapters just to find out what happens. This is the second time I am reading it, the whole series, that is, and I love it more. I had forgotten a few details, but everything came back to me as I was going along in the series. I recommend this book to those who want to catch a glimpse of what can and probably will happen, after the rapture. Of course, on one knows what exactly will happen, but this is a taste of what might happen if those who are left behind might find themselves facing. It's a wake up call to those who do believe too. I am so excited to know that I belong to Christ and I can't wait for His return. I pray everyday He comes soon. I pray that many more will find Him, but this world is becoming more and more difficult to live in. I can't believe there are those who say they believe in God and they live the way they want to and then when they are left behind, then they wonder, why that happened to them. I hope they will get right with Christ before they ever have to go through any of that. Praise God for Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye for starting this series, as to open the eyes of those that don't know at all what will happen, or to those who have their eyes closed and know it might happen, and to get the real believers to pray more for Christ's return, to get His bride out of here. Time is running out people. Get right with God and don't be "Left Behind"...
Well told, but disagree with the theology
This book (and really the series) is relatively well engaging - if it wasn't I wouldn't have read ALL of them. However, I have beef with it's theology. If you believe in pre-tribulation you will probably love this book. As that's not what I believe about the end times, I wish this book didn't espouse that view. If the book leads people to Jesus, though, I say it's a job well done.

I have very mixed feelings about this book.
I'll begin with some of the good - these guys know their bible! There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that they could answer any question that I could throw at them. Their interpretation is very close to mine, and that helped me to see their explanations clearly, too. One of the characters, Buck, becomes a very interesting character before the end of the book. Bruce begins to be a true character before the end of the book, too, and that propelled me towards reading the next books in the series. Chloe gives an inkling that she might be interesting later on, and she does become better, so please hang in there and read the next book. I'm very glad that I did.
Now for the bad - these guys are not very good writers. I know that sounds really harsh but it's true. Their writing is sometimes so poor that I could not help comparing it to a high school freshman. Things like "____ said" six or seven times in quick succession are so easily fixed that I can't help but to assume that they (and their editor) don't know that it is unpleasant to the reader's "ear".
The story doesn't flow very well and is quite clumsy, throughout. The characters are thrown together and the connection is so flimsy that I found myself rolling my eyes repeatedly. I mean, it's almost painful to read in some places, since it's so awkward.
I don't know the authors but was a bit uncomfortable with what I perceived as a sexist and classist flavor to the entire book. The women in the book are all supremely beautiful and are a large number of years younger than the men who are chasing after them. That's just not right. The men are really successful, powerful, and wealthy. There's not one character that I can say is an "everyman" or "everywoman" type in the entire book. Bruce (the new pastor) is pretty basic but that's only because he has no personality until the tail end of the book. Even then, he's just a little odd.
The authors fall into one of the traps that turns many folks off who might be "on the fence". They make it seem like if you decide to enter the church, you will need to hug people and that your entire demeanor will instantly change. This is not true. I'll repeat - this is not true. Folks, we are not all cookie cutter people and, just because two of us are believers does not mean that we will act the same. Another thing that might turn off a potential believer is that they mention scanty tithing in the same way that they mention having a lustful heart. If I don't tithe the full ten percent, it won't keep me out of The Kingdom! We should give generously to keep our church alive and well, but it's not something that should be given as a reason for one of the characters being left behind. Also, seriously, it's always a bit creepy when a younger woman is hooked up to an older man and the author decides to make her the tiniest bit "forbidden". I know that 20 years old is over the legal age of 18 but, really, would it have killed you to make her 21? It has a whiff of the "barely legal" stench that creeps many women out. Yeah, I'm one of them.
I mentioned above that some of the characters become more interesting. Emphasis on SOME. There are a couple who remain annoying and really take away from the story for me.
One more small bone to pick is that the names of the characters are so hokey. I mean, they're pathetic and stereotypical. Rayford Steele (the handsome, successful, wealthy pilot), Buck Williams (the youthful, powerful, successful writer), Chloe (the beautiful college aged young woman), and Hattie (the gorgeous, mid-twenties, ditzy flight attendant), and the list goes on.
So, that's my impression of the book. I really like the series. This is my second time reading it. The first time was alone and this time it's with my husband. I totally recommend reading the entire series. The next book gets much better. Once things start happening, the story stops hiccupping and flows nicely. The events keep you on the edge of your seat so please don't judge the entire series by this one. The authors have provided a flimsy setup but, trust me, it gets so much better!

I wasn't too sure about this book, but thought it would be an interesting read...and it actually was, if you're able to weed out all of the religious propaganda. It seems the authors push a little too hard to get the reader to believe in their version of religion. There are many, many more books in this "series" I'm told, but I'll just stop at this one. The premise was very interesting, somewhat scary, and thought-provoking. I enjoyed it to a certain degree, even if I don't agree with all of the religious brainwashing thrown at you.
Let me just start off with something real quick. I am a God fearing woman in live with her faith! So if you read this review and wish to comment, please be respectful. I'm not saying you have to believe as I do, but if you don't agree with words in this book or review, please don't comment just to "Jesus bash". If you would like to comment about this book from a strictly literary sense, then by all mean feel free to do so!!
To me, Left Behind, book #1, not as much fiction as others may think. Left Behind almost like a glimpse into the future. If you read the book of Revelations you'll see what I mean.
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. --Revelation 1:3
I was immediately into this book!
Rayford Steele is like a lot of other red blooded married men. He works, provides for his family, has wants, has worries...he lusts. Rayford doesn't see himself as anywhere near the best father to his two children, Chloe and Ray. He knows he's not the best husband to his wife, Irene, the best Christian, and now he's been flirting dangerously with adultery.
These are Rayford's own accusations against himself and I think because of these musings, created by the sudden realization that he has been left behind is what makes this book so personable. A lot of men and woman can identify with him and his situation.
Left Behind is written from Rayford Steele's point if view as well as Cameron Williams, aka Buck.
I loved Buck's character as well! Again, the normal yet successful journalist, makes it easy for the reader to connect with him. I have a feeling that Buck is going to make a huge transformation in his beliefs in the other books in the Left Behind series.
About halfway through the book, I had an inkling who the anti-Christ was, but this did not ruin any part of the book for me. In fact, the level of suspense in Left Behind was only added to because of it!
The only part if the book I didn't think was aces was, because Left Behind was written from the point of view of two entirely different people, the story kept leaving off on cliff hangers. However, that just added to the suspense and created a page turning frenzy. So no biggie at all!
Left Behind was well written, flowed easily, and I ate it up! I really enjoyed it! After reading Left Behind, I took a closer look at my own relationship with God and took an inventory of myself.
Left Behind was really eye opening! I would recommend to everyone to read this and the rest of the series! I know I look forward to book #2 myself!

One day millions of people disappear all over the world, the story of the chaos that ensues and the theories as to why this happened.
The first of the Left Behind series. grabs you in fast. A good read.
Regardless of if you are religious, the Left Behind series is wonderful. The characters grow on you and the books makes you think- even if you don't believe in the rapture.
This is a book that a relative highly recommended to me years ago. I finally got around to reading it. At the time she recommended it, I remember it having a lot of hype about it. I can truly say now that I'm not quite sure why. I can understand the hype about the message the book sends and for different people I imagine it has different effects. I know for me it kind of freaked me out and also left me with a lot of questions. The book is about The Rapture. The time when Jesus comes down and takes all of the true believers back to Heaven with Him. The ones who are left are all trying to figure out what happened. There are a group who believe their loved ones went to Heaven and have realized that they missed out and they want to right themselves. Signs from the book of Revelations start appearing including the uprising of the antichrist.
That being said, it's an excellent story idea, it's just not executed that well. I did not care for any of the characters. The dialogue was very basic and boring. There was really nothing much there to keep me into the book. I really think it could have been done much better. Will I read the 2nd book in this series? Not sure. That's one I'll have to contemplate.

Very good read. Couldn't put it down.
loved this whole series, reordered to start my cousin on the series. highly recommend to everyone! Believers and non believers. Could not put the book down.
Makes you stop and think about your life.
Very badly written but at times hilarious account of the "rapture." (up to heaven, of course.) Takes shots at the non-believers who are left behind and to be put through the wringer of tribulations, oh those terrible students, professors, doctors, other heathens, and...atheists, etc. A book for the dark ages. Stinks like rotten meat. Leave this one behind.
The Left Behind Series are a legacy. None stop action from the beginning to end. A MUST read for all Christian readers.
really good
Religious brainwashing. Sounds like it would be an interesting series, but it winds up to be one of a series of their version of the rapture, end of the world, according to their view of Christianity. I won't read books with an ulterior motive, especially from a so called "Christian". Didn't finish it.
I read this because I had heard such great reviews about this series. While it's an interesting concept, I just couldn't get into this book. I would say it was okay, but not all that great as I expected.
Probably the most thought-provoking book I have ever read. Even if you are not a believer in the premise of the book, it is definitely a page turner that is difficult to put down. If you are a believer, it makes you think about your faith and your life in a new way.
I just finished this book today. It was so good! It really makes you think. It is now time, to make a life altering decision. I cant wait to see what the next book brings.
In the beginning, I wanted to read every word about Rayford, Chloe, and Hattie but I was kinda lost in the political jargon when it came to Buck. By the time i got half way through the book, I was just as hooked on everyone's stories. I have never been much of a reader but this book gets your attention from the very start.

I give this book 5 stars! Wonderful Christian series (which still seems to be extremely popular). In the days we now live, I would recommend this book for anyone interested in eschatology.
The series had been out for a while but I began to read book one. WOW, although it is fiction a part can be true. It really made me stop and think how I was leading my life. This book got me going to read the next series. This book was very hard to put down.
this is a very good book! i couldnt wait to see what was going to happen next. the only thing that was hard for me is im not very politicly inclined. it is written from the stand point of the pilot and a man that writes for the media. i was on the edge of my seat for the pilot.,... i got thru the media man's stuff. :) the book is way way better than the movie!
A truly amazing story that makes you wish you could hurry and get to the end...just to pick up the next one!
Both of the authors did an incredible job with this first book in the Left Behind series, and created amazing characters that you fall in love with!

I have really enjoyed the entire Left Behind Series! this was a very good read. Hard to put it down!
Increible first book in the Left Behind series about the second coming of Christ. A thriller that you won't want to put down and will make you run to the book store for the books that follow!
Really great series, I couldn't put them down!
First in the series...
Piloting his 747, Rayford Steele is musing about his wife Irene's irritating religiosity and contemplating the charms of his "drop-dead gorgeous" flight attendant, Hattie. First Irene was into Amway, then Tupperware, and now it's the Rapture of the Saints--the scary last story in the Bible in which Christians are swept to heaven and unbelievers are left behind to endure the Antichrist's Tribulation. Steele believes he'll put the plane on autopilot and go visit Hattie. But Hattie's in a panic: some of the passengers have disappeared! The Rapture has happened, abruptly driverless cars are crashing all over, and the slick, sinister Romanian Nicolae Carpathia plans to use the UN to establish one world government and religion. Resembling "a young Robert Redford" and silver-tongued in nine languages, Carpathia is named People's "Sexiest Man Alive." (This reviewer, a former People writer, finds this plot twist plausible.) Meanwhile, Steele teams up with Buck Williams, a buck-the-system newshound, to form the Tribulation Force, an underground of left-behind penitents battling the Antichrist.
Sexist, anti-Semitic, poorly written. Interesting idea, though.
This book really makes you think about what could happen to people during the end times.
I'm not into Christian fiction, but this was actually a very intriguing book. It kept me entertained.
The one that started it all.
Highly recommended!
Read this is one night excellent I have read the whole series
Great book, great series! Must read for every Christian!
Abriged, 3 hours tapes.
First of the Left Behind Series, this book is excellent!
First book in Left Behind Series.Food for thought. The Rapture . Some are left and some are taken. The whole series is worth reading. It is of course fiction.
Wonderful book, VERY hard to put down.
Excellent read! A first in a series about the apocolypse.
This is the book that started off the series, and the concept for a TV show in the fall of '06 (which I'm sure won't be half as good as the book).
It's a Christian thriller- prophesy based fiction, a juiced-up morality tale. Thought provoking and very entertaining!

This is a wonderful series
had anticipated reading this one and it wasnt a disappointment! a great first book for a coming series.. for me anyway!!
In one cataclysmic moment, millions around the globe disappear. Vehicles, suddenly unmanned, careen out of control. People are terror stricken as loved ones vanish before their eyes. In the midst of global chaos, airline captain Rayford Steele must search for his family, for answers, for truth. As devastating as the disappearances have been, the darkest days may lie ahead. A+++ #1 in the Left Behind Series...you won't be able to put these down!!!
The First in the series
Not my cup of tea.
A real page turner, about the end times.
Wonderful "what-if" story. People just disappear leaving their clothes where they sat. Christian literature.
The first in the Left Behind series.
The first book of a great series!
What a great topic to write on! It kept my interest but seemed preachy at times.
I found this book very well written. Some of the Christian doctrine is different than I believe, but I still enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This book is absolutely awful. The characters are awful, the writing is awful, the premise and plot are awful, the politics are awful, the message is awful. The writers kind of hurry up to convert the non-Christian protagonists into Christians, which process is silly and reminded me of reading those Chick tracts people used to give out on the street. People fall in love and stuff, awkwardly. The United Nations and Catholic Church come in for some bashing...like in those Chick tracts! All that said, five stars. I loved it and you will too. It makes you laugh and feel good about yourself. The second one is even better. Now please, somebody request it!
Depending on your religious background, this book may not be factual. It is listed as a work of fiction. Who knows what the END TIMES will bring? It certainly gives one something to think about. The book moved slowly for me, until I got to the last few chapters, then I could not lay it down and, of course, I want to read the next book in the series!
First book of an awsome series.
I read the book and it really gets you to thinking about how things could come to pass.
Left behind REALLY NEAT
I loved this entire series and always looked forward to the next one!
FANTASTIC BOOK!!! I read the whole series, one after another. I love them!!!
Dramatic account of what things may be like when that day comes...
excellent read couldn't put it down
The whole Left Behind series is amazing. Very insightful & inspiring. Keeps you wanting more until the very last page and then you can't wait to start the next book!
Exciting, thought provoking, hard to put down.
I love this whole series. This is the first book in the series.
Excellant!
Very good. Would recommend this to everyone. Even non-Christians will enjoy. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Very powerful series. Makes Revelations come to life.
Trite. I can't believe these things are so popular.
This book is just one of the series published by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. Personally I really enjoyed this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat and gave an account of how things would be if we are "Left Behind" when Christ returns.
This was a very good book!
Great book for Christians about faith.
The book that started it all. The first and best.
Great book series.
This is the first in the series...if you haven't read it but are interested in religion at all it's a great series.
First in Left Behind series...great book
"The Left Behind" series tells the fictional account of what happens to people left behind on earth after the "Rapture of the Church" as described in the Biblical bible.
In the beginning of the story, the main characters suddenly find that millions of people all across the world have suddenly vanished, leaving nothing but a pile of clothes. Rayford Steel, an airline pilot is shocked to find over half his passengers and crew have dissapeared midflight. He immediately recognizes what he thinks has happened. The "rapture" has occured. Christ has come and taken the believers and all the children to heaven, leaving the nonbelievers, or those who have not accepted Christ as their personal savior, behind. But is that really what hapened? Is Satan taking over the world or is some other type of being all together - one not terrestrial at all??? This is the first book of a long series - one that jolted the Chirstian church.

This book really needs editing; characters are weak and uni-dimensional. I for one would expect some deep introvertion instead of a three page long diatribe on the greatness of becoming a christian, I was bored by page 60.
The last two chapters were as fast moving as a daytime soap on sweeps week, though.
I wonder, what would other religions think of this one?

A novel of the earht`s last days.
This is only for people who believe or want to believe in "The Rapture." While the story itself is interesting, the authors take pains to point out the faults of all non-believers. It is fundamentalist Christian fiction, in which all medical personnel involved in abortions, for instance, yearn for babies to be born after the rapture, just so they can have something to do and to get rich off of killing babies.
This is the first book of a series of 12 and the series was a wonderful read.I loved it.
Utter garbage. Based on theology that has been completely discredited. Read it only if you are interested in being part of the brainwashing being done on America by rich, white men interested in using religion to keep their position of power. True Christians should be appalled by the graphic violence and hate in this series.
millions of people around the world disappear, the terror of knowing that the end is near.
the series is excellent i have them all, this one was a extra copy.

On a flight from Chicago to London, several passengers aboard Capt. Rayford Steele's plane suddenly and mysteriously disappear. When Steele radios to London to report the situation, he discovers that the incident on his plane is not an isolated phenomenon but a worldwide occurrence. As Steele begins his search for answers, he learns that the Christ has come to take the faithful with Him in preparation for the coming apocalyptic battle between good and evil and that those who have been left behind must face seven dark and chaotic years in which they must decide to join the forces of Christ or the forces of Anti-Christ. Jenkins, writer-in-residence at Moody Press, and LaHaye (A Nation Without a Conscience, Tyndale, 1994) have written a gripping thriller that captures the anxiety and fear that interpretations of Revelation often inspire.

wonderful book!
I just could not get into this book.
Take this review from an atheist:
This is a good friggin' series.
This is a good friggin' series.
Excellent fiction book based on the real events that will take place when Jesus returns for His chosen! Even if you're not a believer, it's a great read. Action packed, page Turner. I couldn't put it down. I read this book in about 4 hours and that was with potty breaks.
Based on the apocalyptic prophesies of the Book of Revelation, this book tells the harrowing story of commercial airlines pilot Captain Rayford Steele, a wayward Christian who is left behind on earth following the end of the world. The first of 12 books in an astoundingly successful series of Christian action novels shows Rayford's gradual climb to self-awareness and repentance and introduces the Antichrist's seven-year reign of terror. LEFT BEHIND held a spot on the Publishers Weekly trade paperback best-seller list for 22 weeks.
Millions disappear. Chaos reigns. Airline captain Rayford Steele searches for his family. "The darkest days may lie ahead."

This bestselling series will appeal not only to Christian readers but to anyone who loves a great story -- they dont call the Bible "the greatest story ever told" for nothing. Beginning with the rapture of the church as related in the Book of Revelations, Jenkins and LaHaye brilliantly imagine the tribulations we will experience and endure, and perfectly describe for us the events prophesied to occur prior to Christ's return to earth.
