I was so outdone that
i was reading a true story that happened in this day and age. I had to keep reminding myself that this was not fiction but what actually happened throught the eyes of this oung woman. I was mortified and found myself wondering why? why? why? My bigest question was why did'nt the US step in to help this country since they are always buting in to other country's affairs? This country Rwanda would have welcomed the much needed assistance from anyone. This book made me want to know more about the masacre so
I went on line to find further readings about it. All in all it's a good book but if you're emotional like me, have your tissue handy.

Wonderful book!!! I highly recommend it. If you feel that your life is hard then read this book and you won't feel that way any longer. The author went through horrors and terror that I don't know that I could have endured. In the end, she came through it forgiving and not hating her tormentors. If only the world could hear her voice perhaps it would be a much better place.

A beautiful, moving and poignant book. I loved its truthfulness, honesty, and forgiveness. It didn't shirk from detailing the brutalities, but it did not make them the main focus of the story. I liked the style of storytelling: there was humor within the sadness, and humanity, like a prism, in many lights. Wonderful.

This a brave and harrowing account of I's will to survive. You can smell, and see, and practically feel her ordeal. Very personal and emotional read.

This book is fabulous! Immaculee's description of her life prior to, during, and after the Rwandan genocide is very honest and matter-of-fact. She does not sugar coat anything, but neither does she resort to melodrama. It was a book that I couldn't put down, as our slightly burned dinner the day that I read it can attest :-) I was able to read it in one day, so it was a quick read.
I was inspired by her complete focus on God during the whole ordeal, and her ability to forgive so quickly and completely. If you are struggling to forgive someone, reading this book will help you to put things into perspective.

This is an amazing book. It's too amazing to hoard and therefore I am posting it. The faith & spirit that this woman had thru her unspeakable personal and family tragedy is just amazing and now that I have read her story I go thru each day more grateful and with more faith than ever before. It should be required reading for all humans!

I think I read this book in 3 hours today. I was glued. What a beautiful story about how prayer, trust, and faith was able to help a young woman survive the Rwandan genocide in the early 90s. Also her story and passion for forgiveness is beautiful. I really admire this lady and the prayer life she has. This is one of the best books I've read ever. If you can't handle graphic descriptions of how someone is slaughtered to death, don't read it. It is very depressing but Immaculee's strength to endure through Jesus' guidance in her life is really amazing!!!

Immaculee's story is both heartbreaking and inspirational. the horror that she survived is almost too much to contemplate. Even more remarkable is her ability to forgive those who participated in the genecide. An amazing book!

We always here these stories about how, in the midst of great persecution, some people seem to transcend their surroundings and remind us of what matters most. Immaculee Ilibagiza is just such a person, telling the background of the events leading up to the genocide in Rwanda, how she survived for months with several other girls in a tiny bathroom with nothing to eat, to being betrayed yet spared to tell her amazing story to the world. She is a precious and amazing woman whose story needs to be told to all those who say, "It could never happen here!"

This story is amazing. The details of the killings are horrific and I had a hard time imagining the lack of humanity involved. I had to keep reminding myself that this happened in my lifetime. Her story of forgiveness is amazing as well. I only gave it three stars because sometimes the writing style was a little juvenille. I really don't ever see the need for the explanation point. This is a part of history that should not be ignored though.

I read this book in two days. It is a story I will never forget. I had to remind myself that this was a true story and happened only about 15 years ago. Horrific that this type of behavior can be carried out in this day and age. Immaculee is inspiring in her faith. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic! Incredible story, amazing and thought - provoking. I have often struggled with the Christian notion of forgiveness. Especially in such dramatic, seemingly unforgivable acts. This book really lays it out. You see into her mind and feel her feelings and understand her conclusions. A must read for any one struggling with advisaries.

An amazing story of how Immaculee managed to survive the killings, when most of her family did not. A story of her faith and how her prayers and visions of the positive ways God would work in her life. Learn how she was able to kill those who mercilessly ended the lives of her parents. This is a story you will never forget, with lessons we never should forget. Beautifully written.
