A young adult book about an independent young girl who sets off by herself after the death of her father to find out who she really is. The story was a very straightforward adventure and probably would be good for preteens. Ilena is unusual in that she is trained with weapons and warfare. A good book to learn some interesting facts about the time period such as Druid beliefs and inheritance through the female line. Fast read.

An enjoyable read. Nothing too deep, but a light summer book to take to the beach or a lake-house.
This book had me enthralled within a few pages. Well written, unique, easy to fallow and I just fell in love with
Ilena, she spoke to the Warrior in me.
It's ashamed Malone hasn't written many more books, but I'm grateful for these two, they will remain on our shelves.

Historical fiction set in Arthurian times, when inheritance was through the female line, Druidism was being challenged by Christianity, the Romans had left Britain and the Saxons were trying to conquer it. 15 year-old Ilena's parents were outsiders in the place where they raised her in and taught her the skills of a warrior, but before he died, her father told her to return to their place of origin, without telling her anything about her real identity. This fast-moving feminist YA novel contains mystery, swordfights and also romance.
