After finishing this thin little mystery, I was left asking "that's it?" Black does a good job creating characters and conveying details, but there is no tension and not much happens. I expected that there would be a twist or something, but not really. I enjoyed the first book in Black's mystery series, but didn't like this stand alone mystery so much.

If you enjoy a tight, precisely worded mystery with clearly developed characterization this is the perfect little fictional piece. You can devour the entire book in a very short time because it is so cleverly crafted that you don't want to put it down.

Not one of Benjamin Black's best efforts - but again - he cannot write a bad book.
