A novel written about the History of Sicily and the end of an era of wealthy landovers domination. A well written, easy to read historical fiction.

"Written by a Sicilian prince who died in 1957 thinking his work would never be published, this novel seems destined to take its place among the classics of world literature."

Set in 1880's Sicily - a time of many changes in the life of the "Leopard." Interesting to see the changes in government, family, classes from his perspective. Like watching a slow motion train wreck. Very interesting book. Was also made into a movie with Burt Lancaster. This is a very old, fragile copy.

Outstanding book, set in Italy in the 1860s, during the time of Garibaldi and the Red Shirts- when Italy was moving toward becoming a unified state, rather than run by wealthy princes, etc. The Prince- The Leopard- is a bigger than life person and the story is engrossing. A movie was made some years ago, very true to the novel, with the Leopard well-played by Burt Lancaster. Gorgeous scenery, and sense of history.
