This is a memoir all about friendship, dogs, and dying. You are told right up front that the one friend is going to die. So there are no surprises there or anywhere really. Her story is raw and intense, but altogether honest. Middle aged, the author is also trying to "find herself" so it's a coming of age story too, even though the one coming of age is so much older. At times, I think I can relate to that. This was a wonderful true story and yes I cried just a little. I found myself wishing I had a close female friend like that. The dogs they loved and walked in the story were a bonus for me, loving dogs as I do. If you like memoirs and aren't bothered by the subject matter, I think you'll love it.
