This was certainly a surprise! A great mystery in an historical format. I couldn't put it down, even though it was slower moving than the mysteries/psychological thrillers I usually read. The ending is amazing! I'll definitely read more of this author.

Gretchen is an old woman who received a letter from home. The book is written in flashbacks in Gretchen's mind about her friend and neighbor, Barb Tatum, parents murder and sucide.
I had a hard time putting this book down.

A crime scene takes place in bygone days in small-town Oklahoma. This thoughtful innovative mystery is a great read.

A departure for Carolyn Hart, this is set in the past and doesn't involve her usual characters, but I enjoyed it.

Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Week and I can understand why. At the end of the book, it leaves you wondering if this might be a true story. I loved it
A journalist returns to the small town she grew up in to uncover the truth about a long-ago murder.
The scene of the crime is bygone day in small-town Oklahoma - memores of the day when her life changed for ever.
Having read her other series, I ordered this just on a whim. It is an excellent book. I had a "feeling" about two of the characters about half way through. When I reached the end, I realized all of the clues were there...just so subtle I had missed them. If she had lived in that era, she would certainly have been a member of the Detection Club! A definite winner.
It took a while to get into this book, but it was intriguing. Very interesting that it is written from the perspective of a young girl. Overall, I would say it was interesting, tho' not captivating.
This is a very lovely mystery book.
Very touching and completely different from Ms Hart's light hearted "Death on Demand" mysteries. A gentle, heart felt look at how the past creates our present.
In my younger days, I really enjoyed that bookstore series this author wrote. But, as time wore on, they seemed to become more stale and I never could warm to that second series she wrote.
Still, I always had the feeling she would be a really nice person to spend time with.
This book is set in a little town in Oklahoma and many/most of the experiences echo ones I saw or experienced, myself. She's dead on about the closed mindedness she portrays and the plot is more compelling than anything I've read by her in a while.
It's definitely worth the time it takes to read it.

The authors' name is actually Carolyn Hart.
World-renowned journalist GG Gilman does her best not to think of the past. But one day she gets a letter- sent from the small Oklahoma town where she grew up- that brings it all back. Memories of people she had once known and loved dearly- and all the sultry summer when her life changed forever...
