Another winner from Cathy Marie Hake. She is now, along with DeeAnne Gist, among my absolute favorite Christian fiction authors. The character Ruth was the perfect example of sweetness and imperfection--someone that you'd want for your best friend if she could walk out of the pages of the book.

This won't be considered helpful, but it is. This book is horrible. I bought it because I like the cover, it costed only $4 and the reviews on the back. At first it was engaging, but then the book lacked plot and the character and the story were really dry. Overall, it was a waste of my time and money. I DON"T recommend this book it was horribly written.

This is the first book I have read by Cathy Marie Hake - was I ever surprised! This was an absolute excellent read. I have definitely found another "favorite" author and will look for more of her books as they come out.

In this book, Ruth has such a hard time - nothing she does seems to be right. She gets herself into so many precarious situations, and the outcomes are hilarious. This book kept me riveted to the pages from cover-to-cover. I think my husband thought I had lost my mind when I would all of a sudden start laughing out loud while reading. It just couldn't be helped! This book is just full of fun; excellently written.

The book begins in Jefferson City, Missouri in the year 1859, includes St. Louis, Missouri, and moves on by stagecoach to Folsum, California to the Broken P Ranch (where Ruth meets Josh McCain). And the fun is just beginning...!

This was a wonderful book about a girl that didn't fit in, in her world then her mom died and she went to her father only to find that he had died before she meant him. It's a great story I had a hard time putting it down, I can't wait for this author to write more books I will be sure to read them. Theresa

This book was very engaging. The main character is encouraged to be who God made her to be, rather than who she thinks she SHOULD be. Interesting plot and wonderful characters! Great historical inspirational romance!

The story was fast paced, easy reading, and enjoyable. It left a lot of questions unanswered though, which begs the question is there a sequel?

Great book. Loved it. Will be looking for others by this author. (Although not the Heartsong types. The bulky ones like this one). by Bethany House publishers.

Good book. Had the suspence and romance and just plain fun. Always had you on the end of your seat, and the further you got into it the harder it was to put down. I would recomend it to someone, and have already lent it to a friend and she loved it too.

This is a great book. It's a westen circa 1860 novel which takes place in Folsom just outside of Sacramento, California. Ruth Caldwell's mother just died and she sends Ruth to her father In Folsom. Upon arriving there Ruth discovers her father is dead. The McCain family offers to let her stay with them until her father's will is decided.

Strange accidents start happening. Laney Mc Cain the daughter of Mr. McCain and sister of Josh Mc cain is hit over the head twice in the barn. Josh begins to ask why would someone try to kill Laney, a sweet young woman who is kind to everyone. Josh is shocked when he figures out who the intended victim was. He uncovers a path of embezzlement, deceit and a murder. Cathy Hake is a great author she leads you along as you read; you think you know what will happen and the unpredictable happens. This a great Mystery, romance Christian novel.

This is the first book I read by Cathy Marie Hake. I just love her writing! This book was excellent in so many ways. It had comedy, it had suspense, it had mystery, it had it all. I loved the characters! Ruth is absolutely hilarious and Laney is just so sweet and innocent. I can't wait to read Laney's story in Bittersweet! 5 stars!! I loved it!

This is a wonderful story about Ruth who thinks she is a total misfit. She has been to many finishing schools trying to learn to be a lady, and failed miserably. No matter how hard she tries, she is always a mess - her dresses are soiled, her hair is always falling out of it's pins and she
is constantly putting her foot in her mouth. My kind of gal!
This book has humor, suspense, romance and I found it to be very interesting.

This was an enjoyable book all and all. For those of you who may know the other authors I read and adore, I would say this was similar to reading Mary Connealy. This was my first experience with Cathy Marie Hake and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

I am not sure if it is the pregnancy hormones or things that need to be done, but I did not zip through this book. It took me a while to read it. When I was not with it, it did not call to me like some books where I think I will go crazy if I do not read the next page. However, I did like it overall.

I laughed, thought about crying, got angry, and snickered too. This story contained a wealth of emotions and a good couple handful of humor. The characters were enjoyable and some detestable just as they should be. I saw clues to what would happen and anticipated the next scene as if it were a film.

Easily, this is a read that I recommend.

Ruth Caldwell seems to always be tripping up. She attempts to live up to her expectations of how a lady should act with less than impressive results.

Josh McCain is speechless when he sees Ruth step off the stage looking like she's been sleeping in her gown for the past week. It is soon to be realized that Ruth is legitmate claim to the Broken P Ranch, owned by Josh and his dad. Accidents seem to go beyond the norm for Ruth. Why is someone trying to harm her? Josh must decide where his loyalties lie.

This is a hard book to describe. The dialog between the main characters started off very well and had me laughing aloud in the beginning. However, by the end of the book, the story went from believable to almost overly dramatic. The relationship between the main characters changed abruptly and left me wondering if I'd missed something. It was a decent story with a good Christian message but not the best writing or editing.

What a wonderful book! This book has it all. First, it's an historical, my favorite, in the American west, also a favorite. Then lots of laughter, a loving family, a few tears, mystery, a little romance, and God's Word woven throughout without being preachy. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed listening to this oldie but goodie story by Cathy Marie Hake. She is such a talented writer. I like how she pulls her stories together. Great characters, along with an evil villain. Highly recommended!
