Letters on an Elk Hunt was written by Elinore Pruitt Stewart who also wrote "Letters of a Woman Homesteader." This little book contains a few letters that were commissioned by the magazine Atlantic Monthly for publication, following the success and great interest in her "Letters of a Woman Homesteader." Elinore has a wonderful way with words and can almost make you feel as if you were there on the hunt. She is as she calls herself a plain woman but her writing is quite revealing of her character. Elinore is very observant and takes pains to describe events and even the sights along the way. It is easy to feel as though you were both sitting together and simply chatting with each other. Her first book of Letters is a much better read and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in memoirs of early women settlers, but this quaint little book is charming and a quick delight to read.

Second book by the same author that ventured out to the west on her own, with a small child in tow.
