"We are intruders in each other's dreams." Yossi Klein Halevi is an American-born Israeli, and award-winning author and journalist. He is a fellow at the prestigious Shalom Hartman Institute. He moved to Israel in 1982 at the age of 29. In this book he writes open letters to his unknown Palestinian neighbor, in a moving attempt to bridge the gap of understanding that exists between Israelis and Palestinians. He clearly accepts and validates the dreams and aspirations of both sides of this conflict, and believes that a two-state solution is possible if everyone agrees to give up parts of their dreams in exchange for the opportunity for peace.
He explains what drew him to Israel and the emotional and historical connection of the Jews to that land. At the same time, he fully acknowledges a similar and valid dream by Palestinians. "This is the first attempt by an Israeli author to directly address his Palestinian neighbors and describe how the conflict appears through Israeli eyes. Halevi untangles the ideological and emotional knot that has defined the conflict for nearly a century." (Wikipedia) In this book, Halevi speaks directly, with emotion and facts, about what has occurred on both sides of the conflict. He writes to his Palestinian neighbor, but he is also speaking to Israeli's and to the world community to help everyone understand. It is a very compelling and absorbing summary of two peoples' conflict and dreams of home. It should be read by anyone looking to understand the conflict. Highly recommended.
