Enjoyable diversion but not my fave in the Union of the Rakes series and a good example of how characters can make or break a tale. Jessica, part owner of her family's soap business, is financially savvy and devises a way to attract investors, but before long she's on a slippery slope. Noel, however, was just too privileged and it rankled despite the author giving him a golden heart. Every now and then I'd get a whiff of immaturity and that bothered me too.
Usually, I'm loving all the sexy bits in romance novels, however, Noel's latent submissiveness and Jessica's new-found taste for commanding him in intimate situations felt contrived. The sex talk was definitely steamy, if a little wooden and sometimes even a bit cringe-worthy.
I felt the heart tugs when Jessica's cover was blown and Noel struggled with her betrayal. Those were very nice emotional scenes.
Overall, fun but honestly, I was more intrigued by the bombshell teaser of an unrequited attraction one of the Union friends has for the other. Hmm. I want more of that. 3.5 stars.
