I enjoyed visualizing Paris and learning about Julia and her husband. A lot about food, which is to be expected!!

I thought this was great. It is always fascinating to see how someone comes to find their life's work. Great read!

This book was oddly unsatisfying. The first two thirds of the book, when Child is learning to cook, are very light in cooking stories. I appreciate the enthusiasm she gained from the city, shopping, and restaurants, but I would have liked to see a lot more of her initial successes and failures in the kitchen.

This was a fun read for me. To read about Julia Child's rise from an everyday person to a chef was fun.
Her travels, attempts and failures at cooking, the triumps of becoming a chef in the end - all show how anyone can rise to the occasion of aspiring a dream.
The parts about her husband and his work with the USIS
was interesting.

What a delightful read! It's such a pleasure diving into the joyful and adventurous life of Child. The book is beautifully written with tales of her life told in an easy-to-read fashion but with very amusing and effective description. I suddenly find myself cooking a ton, longing for Paris, and bemoaning that I'll never have a chance to meet the extraordinary character that is Julia.

I'm recommending to everyone!

This book has everything---foreign travel, memoir of a strong and attractive personality, even recipe hints. Highly recommended whether you enjoy cooking or not.

This is a charming book. Full of human interest and a delight to read. You don't have to be interested in just cooking to enjoy it. There are insights to life in the mid 20th century, a refreshing perspective of cold war era politics from a different viewpoint than what you may have learned in school, a coming of age story and beautiful little snippets about life for a couple of interesting world travelers lives. There are lovely and interesting pictures, a couple of copies of some recipes and an interesting look at how some ladies put together a new kind of instruction book.

This is a book I would bve happy to read again.

Very good book! Loved all her stories.. did get a little too over involved about all the ingredients and French names of things... but very enjoyable book.

I've been curious about Julia Child since the release of the Juile and Julia phenomenon, and in that way, this autobiography about our quirky French master chef did not disappoint. Clearly, her voice was retained throughout the novel, which, though confusing at first, helped me understand who she really was as a brilliant, aspiring, always-learning foodie and chef. It's prompted me to do a Julia Child's dinner party next month, so I say that's success in and of itself!

Very enjoyable. I was encouraged that my two years of French study enabled me to read the French parts pretty well! :-)
