I just found this book 'okay'. Honestly afer 173 pages, i did not continue to read it... i just found it a bit boring. It was not terrible, just a bit disjointed, and a series of stories about being in Paris,but nothing that i looked forward to reading about, so i decided to pass it on to someone else who may enjoy it more than I did.

I just finished Julie and Julia and found it fabulous! So I wanted to read more. I love France as well, so I figured this would be the book for me. It was a dry read and not very funny. I would be helpful to know some French all the recipes Julia refers to are in French. I much prefered Julie and Julia, but found this an interesting read.

Really got a sense of Julia's personality.
Read a little each night while on a ten day vacation and it was hard to put it down and get some sleep! Funny, fast easy read. Gave me appreciation for all Julia accomplished while overseas and when she returned stateside. Personal details very moving including those pertaining to her marriage. They were so in love - so the romance was an added bonus. Her husband too was a marvel in his own right and his information added much to the book. I highly recommend it and would not mind reading it again.

If you saw Julie and Julia, this is a must read. So much better than the film.
This is Julia's autobiography, including her life after France.
Haven't finished it, but am enjoying it immensely so far! Julia Child has a lively personality that translates well into print. Full of curiosity, juicy culinary details, and amusing characters. Definitely recommend this one!
I really enjoyed reading this book. After watching "Julie and Julia" I wanted to know more about Julia Child. This was different from a typical biography/autobiography, probably because she doesn't try to stick to a strict time-line (not that the story is out of order) but tells stories about different episodes in her life. I enjoy history, France, and food, so this book hit all those notes for me. Others might not be as interested. After reading this I want to get a copy of her cook books and try my hand at French cooking...though I actually don't care for French cooking that much. But Julia made me want to try.
Julia Child's story of her life in France...and Germany, and Norway, and the United States...truly conveys the joy she took in cooking, as well as in life in general. A very entertaining read. One caveat: this book should never be read when you're hungry, because it won't help a bit. ;-)
I loved everything about this book. I wanted to visit France, Norway and even Germany after reading it. Julia Child is turly a one-of-a-kind person, I wish I had know her. The story is full of love, food and wine. 3 of the most important things that humans need to live a full life. Bon Appetit!
I read this book after having seen Julie & Julia, but I knew next to nothing about Julia aside from what's in the film. Even at that, I found it absorbing: a great look into the background of an American icon. If you're a Julia Child fan, you're a big memoir reader, or you just liked the movie, by all means pick it up.

Loved it! As Julia Child fan long before there was a "Julie & Julia", I relished this glimpse into Julia Child's life. With every page I could hear her voice telling the story. A fascinating woman whose life would have been interesting even if she had not been catapulted to culinary stardom.
I really enjoyed this book. You will too especially if you are a food lover like Julia was.

I loved this book! I felt as if I were having a lovely conversation with Ms. Child over a couple of highballs, of course. There are some somewhat startling predjudices and snobberies, but I'm not that much younger than she, and I remember well that times were just different then. This did not detract from the overall joy of sharing her experiences and "seeing" a France that is no more.
What a great read! I love Julia Child's attitude and sense of humor. An adventure of food in France, what could be better? An inspirational book that shows us that if you put your mind to it, anything is possible at any stage in our lives.
A lovely biography that urges one to travel, eat, and discover your life's passion. The narrating is superb and convinced a young college girl like me to order a massive text on French cooking, The Art of Mastering French Cooking, because it's creation was described in such detail within My Life in France's pages. I will keep this book to read again when I have the means to actually visit the wonderful places described within it's pages.
This book has no pictures for an autobiography. I was a little disappointed by that but overall I enjoyed the book.
