A true story of a woman who made her way through mining camps and a life of rough, desperate, survival raising her children. It touches the heart of women who share similar hardships even in today's world- as it can be a rough time just making it through day-to-day living. But we do, and this book shares that common bond that makes us "ordinary women" connected to each other as we live out our lives with what we have.

An account of a woman's life trying to survive during the mid to late 1800s-early 1900s in the west. There were not many career choices for a decent woman so she starts out as a cook in a mining camp. She gets married, has a number of children and life still is hard to eke out. She moves on from place to place hoping to make a better life but is usually disappointed. All the things this woman does at that time might have been considered ordinary but by gosh, she worked from sunup to sundown and then some. She was a strong person and did her best. A very interesting read for historians particularly those who are partial to a woman's account of life in the new, raw west.
