Working in the medical field, I am drawn to good, accurate medical fiction. Dr. Gerritsen doesn't let her reader's down. My very favorite of hers was Harvest so if you end up enjoying this one, check it out!

I am reading Tess Gerritsen's thrillers that are pre- Rizzoli and Isles mysteries. I thought Robin Cook's medical thrillers were captivating, but the story held my attention that it was hard to put down the book. If the reader wants a change of pace from reading cozy mysteries, which I dearly love reading, hop over to the earlier Gerritsen books for some good solid thrillers

ER doctor Toby Harper's life revolves around her night shift at the hospital and days devoted to caring for her mother who has Altzheimers disease. After she treats two elderly men who come to the ER within days of each other, one mysteriously disappears and the other dies. Both men had lived in a very posh new nursing home where they had received youth-restoring harmone therapy. Dr. Harper begins to learn some frightening facts about what may have killed the men, and with the help of a new doctor on staff at the nursing home uncovers the fact that there have been other suspicious deaths. The county medical examiner, an attractive widower a few years older that Toby, gets involved in the mystery, which turns deadly for the new nursing home doctor and is almost fatal for Dr. Toby Harper. A little slow at first, this book turns into a real page-turner.

Tess Gerritsen is in a super-league with Robin Cook when it comes to writing medical mysteries. The plots and sub-plots are loosely interwoven into the main story in a way that you know they will somehow come together in the end and this book is no different. There is something evil going on at an upper crust nursing home and Dr. Toby Harper is determined to find out what it is, even to the detriment of her own safety. Yeah, this is one of those stories where the heroin puts herself in danger trying to find out the truth. I was so angry with her, I didn't care if she died or not!! Not really, I did care. This is a great mystery.

Now she weaves utter medical authenticity into another novel of gripping suspense, as a dedicated woman doctor probes too deeply into the cause of a lethal, mystifying outbreak. One of the reviews reads "grabs you and holds you from page one" oh yea. Our heroine is Dr. toby Harper who discovers a trail of death that no one else believes. There is an attraction between her and the ME, Dr. Dvorak, and even he doesn't believe her. Elderly people are dying from a rare brain disease.
