Enjoyable suspense, some good twists and turns. Vintage Patterson.

The story is simple, GOOD GUY (although he has a bad side...he is a thief) meets Tess, a hottie on the beach (we later learn she is not what she seems...well you can guess that..no one is perfect). Anyway, life couldn't get any better....you have been offered an opportunity to make quick (although illegal) money and get the girl of your dreams....when, the unexpectant happens (all your friends who are involved in the heist are murdered, as well as the chick you have fallen for) and you are framed for their deaths. Now the story begins, who killed your friends and your lover and why? While Ned Kelly struggles to find out the truth about who is behind his trouble, he meets another woman, Ellie, a FBI agent who specializes in Art to help him discover the truth. As a host of other characters and villians are revealed, you will find yourself rooting that Ned's luck changes soon. I suggest that you give this easy and quick read a chance and enjoy. There are some interesting revelations and plots.

I was mesmerized by this book...couldn't put it down...a bizarre tale that took you on a trip, grabbed hold of your attention and wouldn't let you go... I had tears in my eyes at the end page in the book.......HOORAH what a great ending..... I hope everyone who reads this book enjoys it as much as I did..

Everything is going right for lifeguard Ned Kelley. He is involved with beautiful Tess, and a million dollars is within touching distance. All he has to do is trigger a few alarms to throw the cops off the scent of the robbery of some world-class art. But when Tess is brutally murdered and the others involved in the robbery are massacred, Ned is the prime suspect. Has he been set up?

Patterson and Gross seem to make a pretty good writing team, as this was certainly a solid read about a lifeguard on the run from the law. He manages to hook up with an FBI agent, and they untangle a web of lies to set him free.
Nothing particularly original or earth shattering about the story, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

I love Patterson. Even when his books arent his usual nail-biting, edge of my seat, have no food in the house or clean underwear because Im ignoring my domestic chores books. Sadly, Lifeguard is one of those books. It was just OK for me. Ned Kelly is a likeable character and I felt a lot of empathy for him and what he goes through in this story. Unfortunately, Ned doesnt seem capable of making smart choices. Not when he falls in love, not when he agrees to help his cousin with a burglary, not when he goes on the run, not when he kidnaps an FBI agent, and not when he nearly gets himself killed on more than one occasion.
I was very disappointed with the FBI agent, Ellie. She came across as a little flaky at times, though she could be quite tenacious at times. Her area of expertise is stolen and forged artwork but she jumps into a murder investigation with both feet, despite repeated admonitions from her supervisor to stay out of it. What I didnt find believable is how she willingly went with Ned when he kidnaps her and then is helping him until he lets her go. OK, so she isnt trained in violent crimes, but she is still an FBI agent, so why wasnt she putting up a tiny bit of resistance?
Thrown into this story are a lot of supporting characters that I had a very hard time keeping track of and how relevant they were to the story. So, instead of the heart-pumping suspense I have come to anticipate and expect when I pick up a Patterson book, I got a mostly mediocre story that is just OK.
If you are looking for depth and substance when you pick up a book, give this one a pass. If you are looking for a fluff mystery to read on the beach or during your lunch break, this will fit the bill.

This book was such a page turner. You think you might have it figured out, but then something happens that you didn't expect. Keep you guessing until the very end. This was the first James Patterson book I have read and now I am hooked.
Helpful Score: 1
Alittle slow in starting but once it starts going , it went. The characters are very good and interact with each other in a method that makes totally good sense. Normally do not like Andrew Gross as an author but combine him with James Patterson and it became a VERY good book.
After meeting the woman of his dreams, a lifeguard has an opportunity to net $5 million -- but the robbery goes wrong and he is forced to run away from his town and the woman he loves. But who sabotaged the heist, and who is pursuing him?
The second James Patterson book that I've read and he did not disappoint.
An exceptional read!!!!
Fast Paced, I read it in a couple days on vacation this summer. Just fun to read and light reading but keeps you turning the pages. James Patterson is just great to readd anyway. Just enough suspense to keep you thinking.
Another great book from Paterson!
James Patterson does it again. Thoroughly likable protagonists and dispicable antagonists!! A sure thing heist turns deadly, and Ned Kelly, the guy who was only supposed to create a diversion, is the only one left alive. The story of how he tracks down the real perpetrators and the relationship he developes with the FBI agent who believes in him, makes for great reading.
Loved it! Couldn't put it down!!!

Like most of James Patterson's books this story moved at a quick pace, had good characters and good plot. I enjoyed it.
"The wildest thriller yet from'one of America's most influential authors"
Another fun summer read from Patterson. Not quite as good as his Cross series.
Very fast paced book. Save for the weekend you wont want to put it down
I was really not that impressed with this book. I thought it was a little obvious, and did not really care about the characters.
Working as a lifeguard at a luxurious Florida resort, Ned Kelly meets the woman of his dreams, but she's a caviar and champagne type while he's a burgers and beer kind of guy. So when his cousin offers to cut him in on a fast break-and-enter job, Ned can't turn it down. But the robbery turns devastatingly wrong and he is forced to run away from the woman he loves. But who is pursuing him and why. Was it whoever sabatoged the heist, is it about his new love, or old enemies? Really good read.
Classic Patterson, with twists at the end as always. (from back cover) Working as a lifeguard at a luxurious Florida resort, Ned Kelly meets the woman of his dreams. It feels perfect in every way- except that she is used to caviar, and he's used to burgers. So when Ned's cousin offers to cut him in on a fast break-and-enter job, Ned can't turn it down. The risk is high and the reward is even greater- $5M. But the robbery goes devastatingly wrong...
Good detective story set in Florida and Boston. Fast paced and interesting.
A fast-paced page-turner, you'll enjoy all the twists and turns!
Another great one by James Patterson
The wildest thriller get from "one of America's most influential authors". Working as a lifeguard at a luxurious Florida resort, Ned Kelly meets the woman of his dreams. It feels perfect in every way - except that she's used to caviar and Manolo Blahniks, and he's used to burgers and flip-flops. So when Ned's cousin offers to cut him in on a fast break-and-enter job, Ned can't turn it down. The risk is high, and the reward is even greater - $5 million. But the robbery goes devastatingly wrong. Forced to run away from his town and the woman he's fallen in love with, Ned knows that only distance and secrecy can save his life. But who is pursuing him? The FBI? Whoever sabotaged the heist? Or is it all somehow tied in to his new love-and his oldest enemies?
Best in a while from Patterson.

Another good James Patterson! Fun twist at the end.
Great book couldnt put it down
another good book from james patterson. kept my interest thru out the entire book. his mystery writing is great.
Highly entertaining.
Easy, fast-paced thriller.
Very fast read, one of my favorites by James Patterson!
love this book read it twice....
Action-packed thriller/mystery about characters that you can care about. Lifeguard Ned Kelly could be put away for a murder he did not commit, purely on circumstantial evidence. A gorgeous beach dame invites him for a romp in her richly-appointed hotel room, and hours later he learns she is dead.
Unfortunately for him, all his friends are from the wrong side of the tracks -- and also wind up dead. So he heads for the old homestead outside Boston to find someone he can trust. The plot keeps getting thicker and thicker and you will not want to put this book down.

I enjoyed the book. It is a light quick read perfect for summer travels.
great book by James Patterson.
Patterson is one of today's best writers, and this book just continues that trend.
again not my style, but i really liked this book
This book was quite exciting and kept me involved right from Chapter 1. Set mostly in Palm Beach, FL. Good character development. The plot was juicy and kept moving forward at a fast pace. Lots of action, mystery and unexpected twists. I gave it 5 stars.
"The wildest thriller yet from one of America's most influential authors" (New York Times) A fast break-and-enter job, high risk, with a $5 million payday. The robbery goes devastatingly wrong; forced to run; but who is pursuing him? The FBI? Whoever sabotaged their heist? Or is it all somehow tied to his new love and his oldest enemies?
This was another typical James Patterson books, one that draws you in within the first page. A great fast read. I found myself unable to put this book down until it was finished.
Definitely one that you can't put down! Really liked it, quick read!
Ned Kelly has plans, but they go hay wire. Now Ned is the prime supect in a murder case.He has been set up and the life is snatched away from him, just as it was within touching distance.
Great book couldn't put it down a rfeal page turner.
I didn't care too much for this one. Couldn't get past the beginning, not sure if it was the material or the reader. Unabridged - 5 tapes
I thought that this book was a good book
Great read! Kept me guessing til the end.
Typical James Patterson, but I love them! This one was far fetched and therefore only rated 3.5 stars, but there were thrills and it was an easy and quick read.
A good but predictable James Patterson read, the short chapters make it easy to follow, and it has enough mystery to make it a good ( but fluffy) suspense novel. I enjoyed it, and read it rather quickly.
James Patterson, as always, is an expert in the art of suspense. I couldn't put it down until I was done. I was on the edge of my seat.
Patterson does it again with a story that will captivate you.
James Patterson is one of my favorites his books are all excellent!!!
One of my favorites by James Patterson. He sure knows how to reel a person in.
This book kept me turninig the page. Lots of twists and turns with an amazing ending.
James Patterson continues his winning ways with this exciting novel.
another good book from Patterson
Another great Patterson story. Very well written. Good story and mystery
NY Times #1 Bestseller - as are most of James Patterson's books. Non-stop actions with loads of twists and turns.
Fast paced wildest thriller this author has put out, #1 bestseller. Complex, and can't put down if you like James Patterson.
This is not my favorite James Patterson book. If you are a big fan of this author then go ahead an order this book.
good book! doesn't follow a predictable story line, so that's nice.
I very much enjoyed this book and it goes quickly. It is about Ned Kelly who is involved in an art heist that turns bad. He is forced to solve the crime himself and they mystery begins to unfold...
I liked this book very much
A fun book to read on the beach, the airplane, or anytime! Action takes place in Florida, Boston, and in between.
When you think James Patterson couldn't do as good as he did with his last book, 'bam', he comes across with another spectacular thriller.
a page-turner
Love, Love this book. Full of intrigue and mystery. Great twist at the end.
Forced to run away from his town and the woman he's fallen in love with, Ned Kelly knows that only distance and secrecy can save his life. But who is pursuring him? The FBI? Whoever was sabotaged the
hiest? Or is it all somehow tied to his new Love - and his oldest enemies? This book is great on so many levels, you will enjoy it from first page to last!!

A great read. Will keep you guessing.
Fast paced,great read!
This was one of the books I liked most by James Patterson.
A good Patterson novel, not a great Patterson novel.
A wonderful thriller that will keep you hooked from the beginning.
I have not read a Patterson book before, and I read this one in three " bites" . the first one, I thought, where is this going? the second, I thought, how is this possibley going to unravel? and the third, I couldn't put it down!!! GREAT story that will leave you guessing.
A surprising thriller. It starts out slow but boy does it blow up fast!
It's a good quick read
I like most anything by Patterson and this is a fun easy read.
Fast paced and very exciting finish!
Ned Kelly has met the woman of his dreams. His cousin has offered to cut him on a deal worth a million dollars. A simple break-and-enter. His dreams are all on the verge of coming true. But on the night of the heist something goes horribly wrong and Ned finds his life spinning out of control.
Not a masterpiece but it was a nice escapist read. Ned Kelly was a likeable character, the female FBI agent was rather farfetched. The villain rather snotty and annoying. The plot was enjoyable and kept moving at a nice clip. A good book for when you dont want to read anything too heavy.

Nothing special or memorable about this book. It was well written mixing suspense with love and sex. If you need a filler book this would serve the need.
I loved this book! I have read several of James Patterson's books in the past after a co-worker got me hooked on them over 5 years ago. I like that his chapters are quite short and almost always exciting! This book took place back and forth between Florida and Boston area. It was full of excitement and unexpected plot twists. I enjoyed the entire book and devoured it quickly!
Great, surprising read about a lifeguard who's more than a lifeguard, and a rich woman who has it all and is more than she appears. James Patterson's usual twists and turns guaranteed i didnt put it down before the book was over. Did not dissapoint.
Patterson is such a great writier, this is one of his best books. I would have to say.
ANOTHER GOOD ONE
Another page turner by Patterson. Couldn't put it down
Absolutely great writing and great story. If you like James Patterson books, you will love this one!

Super fast-paced thriller! Patterson's chapters are so short, yet so packed with excitement, that you just HAVE to keep reading!

It feels perfect in every way - except that she prefers caviar and Manolo Blahniks, and he is used to burgers and flip-flops. She is a guest at the luxurious hotel - he lives above a garage.
So when Ned's cousin offers to cut him in on a rich deal he's been commissioned to execute, Ned can't turn him down. The plan is simple, just a fast break-and-enter. The risk is high, and the reward is even greater - $5 million. But on the night of the heist, something goes devastatingly wrong.

Written with the astonishing pace and hairpin-turn plotting that only James Patterson can master, Lifeguard is the wildest thriller yet from "one of American's most influential authors" (New York Times)

A good read/listen. James Patterson deliveres an intriguing novel. Very engaging.
Awsome... A page turner every step of the way.
I just recently started reading James Patterson. My fater was a real fan so thought I'd try reading one. The first one I read was Swimsuit and it left me wanting more. I really enjoyed his style of writing. Lifeguard was done equally well. Action, romance, mystery. It has it all. Now, I just need to fiqure out my next James Patterson book to read...
Another great James Patterson, read in a two days, exciting until the end!
It was a real page-turner, I finished it in only a couple of days!
I enjoyed this book very much. I will read more books by this author.
Another GREAT book by Patterson! He never fails to deliver the suspense and thrill in his books! The ending takes a twist that you don't expect!
Great book -- plenty of twists and turns to the plot --- just when you think you know who is guilty - you find out you are wrong.
I just got done reading this book in two days. It is so good, you wont be able to put it down. There are so many twist and turns to this book and the ending is nothing like you would expect. I loved it and so will you. Happy Reading. Angie

An enjoyable book by James Patterson and another author, although I thought Beach Road was better. I like these newer thrillers that he writes with others.
great book and a quick read...I really liked the main characters and their stories
ANOTHER GREAT BOOK BY PATTERSON. A LOT OF SHOCKS, TURNS, AND TWISTS IN THIS BOOK. GREAT ENDING.
another excellent James Patterson book!
patterson is going downhill
Another good book by Patterson.
Very good book.
PATTERSON DOES IT AGAIN. LOVED THIS FAST PACED BOOK
This book was a typical Patterson book. Not his best, but not bad. Worth a read!!
Intriguing murder mystery, but I don't like this work as much as Patterson's Alex Cross series.
Outstanding book. Once you start, you won't stop. Guaranteed!
Great Book! Typical James Patterson. Easy and fun to read.
Excellent thriller and twisted story about one man's high risk experience that sends his life on a downward spiral.
Wild twists and turns...I read it in one night, unable to put it down.
Good story line. Set in Palm Beach County. Nice to see places I'm familiar with.
Excellent, quick read.
Does he write a bad book?
really good!
This is a wonderful read with plenty of twists and turns, right up to the very end. Plenty of mystery and not too much romance to muss up the storyline. Highly recommend.
The danger isn't in the water as the lifeguard in this fast-paced read soon finds.
As per every book I've read by Mr. Patterson...I couldn't put it down.
starts slow but gets quite interesting, as do all the patterson books
great book, couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.easy and quick to read, patterson writes in short chapters. excellent read!!!
The main character just could be you, no matter what you try, you just seem to "step" into it all the time. The book flows and you can't put it down.
A little predicable until the twist at the very end. Still I like Patterson's writing style, with short chapters that makes you flip pages.
I love Patterson and have read almost all of his work. I can't remember much about this one but like I said I love all his books.
