Don't read this from the first page to the last. Pick it up, open randomly, and read a few of the instructions. For example No. 68, Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference. Or how about No. 188, Be the most positive and enthusiastic person you know. It's not all character building, some are mundane, yet important: No. 310, Don't leave a ring in the bathtub and No. 423, Don't tailgate. You've heard it all before from loved ones, teachers, and your little sister. It's all good advice.

This simple book helps you to step back and view life in a whole new way. I've given copies of this to almost everyone I know. It's that good.

If I did not already have a copy, I would hang on to this little book and its over 500 suggestions for things you can DO (as opposed to "attitude") to have a happy life. It begins with "Compliment three people every day" and ends with "Call your Mother." Between, the wit and wisdom of a man writing a gift for a son setting out for college.

H. Jackson Brown, Jr. originally wrote Life's Little Instruction Book as a gift for his son who was leaving home to begin his freshman year in college. Brown says, "I read years ago that it was not the responsibility of parents to pave the road for their children but to provide a road map, and I wanted to provide him with what I had learned about living a happy and rewarding life." Life's Little Instruction Book is a guidebook that gently points the way to happiness and fulfillment. The observations are direct, simple, and as practical as an umbrella.
"But it's not just for young people," says Brown. "Most of us already know how to live a successful and purposeful life. We know we should be more understanding and thoughtful, more responsible, courageous and appreciative. It's just that we sometimes need reminding." Life's Little Instruction Book is that reminder, as well as the perfect gift for a relative or a friend who needs encouragement at any time of the year.
Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen every day.
Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
