This is one of the best and most well-written books I have ever read. Luanne Rice has really done her research for this story. She covers everything from gypsies to 25,000-year-old cave paintings, and gets all her facts straight, which makes for an even more enjoyable read. Basically, this is a love story, set in the Camargue region of France, where the the gypsies from all over Europe converge in Stes. Maries every May to pay homage to their patron saint, Ste. Sarah. The festival includes riders on the famous white horses of the Camargue, which are central to the story. The book information gives a good synopsis of the story, so I won't do that. I just felt so strongly about the beauty and excellence of Rice's work that I wanted to share my feelings and recommend this book as one of the most enjoyable that I've read in a very long time. Order this book! I promise, you won't want it to end.

Excellent read. My husband and I listened to the audio version when we were on a car trip and we both really liked the story. It is one of those stories that stays with you long after you have read it.

One of the best books by this author. It deals with a woman and a young girl both coping with the grief of losing their mothers in different ways. Wonderful foray into the colorful Gypsy world. Just a beautiful, heartwarming story. I couldn't put it down.

Excellent book about the South of France, Gypsies and their customs, white horses, heartbreak and learning to live again.

I read a lot of great reviews of this book which obviously was a good part of the reason that I requested it. While I did enjoy it and found it to be an easy read, I thought a lot of it was pretty cheesy and not extremely realistic. By the end I did learn to like it but it would not be a book that I would recommend to a friend.
