With echoes of Walter Mosley and Dennis Lehane, Mullen âexpands the boundaries of crime fiction, weaving in eye-opening details from our checkered historyâ (Chicago Tribune).
Explores race, law enforcement, and justice in mid-century Atlanta. 1950 and racial tensions are simmering as black families begin moving into formerly all-white neighborhoods. Battling corrupt cops and ex-cons, Nazi brown shirts and rogue Klansmen, Lucius Boggs and Tommy Smith are drawn closer to the fires that threaten to consume the city once again. Officer Denny Rakestraw is forced to choose between loyalty to family or the law.

This is a follow up to Darktown - a good idea would be to read Darktown first. Excellent writing with a worthwhile story. Characters are well-developed and unique. A real eye-opener to the racial problems in the United States. Recommended to those who love historical fiction and mystery thrillers.
