Original. Wet nurses are often background, yet necessary, characters in the historical romance novels I favor, but their lives, and the reasons for choosing that occupation, are rather mysterious. Lilli's story is a harrowing tale of what it really was like for an unwed mother before the modern age. Fascinating reading. 4 stars.
