I enjoyed the book enough to rank it in the top 5 in my mystery-suspense category. I did not,however, find the final chapters as "utterly surprising" as claimed. In fact, I found the ending to be fairly predictable --- but enjoyable enough overall to be able to recommend. (4 stars)

This book gets my vote for the best mystery of all time. I first read this book back in the sixties when I was in high school and have yet to find a better mystery novel. If you come across a copy READ IT!! You won't be disappointed. Forget the movie though, it was a complete and total disappointment.
