This was my first read of a Mary Karr memoir and certainly not my last. Her writing is so richly poetic that it took me awhile to get into the book, but by the halfway mark, I was completely hooked. I suspect for many readers, this just might be a life-changing memoir. The long, painful struggle to end her alcohol dependence and her defiant search for a higher power have resonated with this reader. I am going to read her earlier memoirs as soon as I can get my hands on them.
I love Mary Karr's memoir. I had already read The Liar's Club. A fascinating life and many obstacles and challenges in her way.
I just finished this book and was blown away. It was not what I expected - well, parts of it are what you will remember from her previous books. But the underlying theme is faith. Her alcoholism and her journey to God will have me thinking about this book for a long time. Highly recommended.
Excellent Book. Another Page Turner from Mary Karr
It took me a bit to get into this. It is amazingly honest. I only wished for more detail.
