This book drew me in from the first chapter... I really enjoyed it! I don't have kids, so I don't agree that you need to in order to love this book. The characters are loveable, flaws and all and J.W. manages to develop their characters and lives without going overboard and making you feel bogged down in the details.

Really enjoyed this book. Just getting back into reading now that my kids are 2 and 4 years old and I could relate to so much in these stories. Never lost focus or interest and was sorry when it ended!

Not what I expected, but very good. The book has little twists and turns in the plot and it was hard to put down. Not Chick Lit where every one is single and dating, but more grown up. These are smart married women dealing with love, sex, and child birth and babies. Plus jobs, losses and life. Something that really spoke to me, as I am beyond the "sex in the city" life style and this book is like that too.

I loved this book. I read in two days. My sister-in-law read it right after I did and she finished it in two days as well. Could not put it down. Definetly two thumbs up from me on this one! I actually wished it was longer. I'm not a mother and I still loved the book.

AMAZING book!!! Loved the characters! Loved the story! It was great that Weiner wrote from the POV of several of the characters. It made it a very full story. It all seemed very realistic. But I have to say that it really made me want to have a baby! Talk about getting my biological clock ticking!!

I read this book shortly after I had my daughter. I totally could understand and feel what the characters were feeling. I laughed out loud so many times with the characters. I think anyone woman who feels like they don't have the perfect size 0 body, has small children, and some great friends would really love this book. Jennifer Weiner is a great author and writes from her heart which such a wonderful sense of humor. I hope someone else will enjoy this book as much as I did!

Not my favorite book by her. This one is not so universal: You kind of have to be a mother to appreciate its nuances. I'm not so I didn't find it very compelling.

Four women become friends while facing various issues that come up in their lives due to their pregnancies. I don't have children, but I still loved this book. I was cheering for each of the characters the whole way through! Weiner has an amazing gift for creating well-rounded, synpathetic characters and following their stories through to each resolution. A fantastic book!

This is by far Jennifer Weiner's best book. I thought that 'Good in Bed' was fairly good, but I did not care for 'In Her Shoes'. I was hesitant to read 'Little Earthquakes' but am so glad that I did. I found myself unable to put it down!

Really good book. My first introduction to Jennifer Weiner's books, and I was pretty pleased. Tells the story of four women who's lives collide as if by fate. Each woman goes through a different life crisis (or two) and is helped by one or more in the group. Cute story. Not a bad weekend read.

This was a cute book all about babies. It was entertaining and a pretty fast/light read. I still think that her first book was her best (it was at certainly the one that I enjoyed the most!). Still I will continue to read her books for the chick lit escapist books that they are.

Truly, my major complaint about this was more about how poorly she was able to stick the the P.O.V. her chapter headings indicated.

Excellent! The entwined story of 4 young mothers. The four each experience the joy of pregnancy and then each their own form of tragedy.
Even though I dont have kids this book is so well written you can feel for all the women.
Highly recogmended.

I am not a mom, but I really loved this book. I think just being a woman makes you understand what it's like to feel judged and watched. And also to feel like you have all these emotions and insecurities that you have to control because you have to be strong for your family. I think Weiner accurately captures that in this book. This was the first of her books that I read, and it is still in my top three of her works. Certain Girls and Good in Bed are the other two.

Second Weiner book I've read (after Good in Bed). Somewhat entertaining, though it seemed like Weiner was making an effort to fit each character into a stereotype. It seemed a bit unbelievable that each woman would find herself facing a personal challenge in a relationship, and each one would be able to emerge victoriously...wrapped up a little too tidily, I thought. Characters in Good in Bed had more depth.

I loved this book because I read it at the perfect time of my life. I just had my first baby about 3 months before I read the book. I could totally relate to so many aspects of the book. It gave me some much needed laughs and stress relief. I love that it gave the stories of these new mothers without judgements about how any of them were deciding to raise their babies. As a new mother, all I get is advice and I appreciate it all and need most of it; however, it's nice to read about other peoples ideas without any pressure to enforce it in my own life. I love that not all the male characters were useless and ridiculous. I have a wonderful husband and that was just one more reason I liked the story. No need to bash men in every chick novel.
5 stars and I will definitely read this book again!

I've been a Jennifer Weiner fan for quite awhile. I could hardly put down her other work: "Good in Bed," but I felt a little differently towards "Little Earthquakes."

I liked the book for sure. An insightful and heartwarming tale of friendship and motherhood, "Little Earthquakes" is a must for Weiner fans and new or soon-to-be moms alike.

My reson for the three star rating is simply how long it took me to become engaged with the characters. I was halfway through the book before I actually started to care about the women and their children. I really can't put a label on this except that it just took me that long to become engaged in the story.

I considered putting it down for awhile, but being the stubborn book-reader that I am, I plowed on and was glad I did. I can't explain what the turning point for me in the story was. The fact is, I don't really know. All of a sudden however, I was no longer bored and wanted to get through to the end of the book.

I did feel a little robbed at the end though. For me the book ended very abruptly and it was kind of a letdown after I'd worked so hard to invest my emotions in the characters. It was almost like Weiner ran out of time/ideas and simply stopped writing. It was kind of annoying actually.

So, I'll definitely pick up another Jen Weiner book. Will I be doing it tomorrow? Nah. I'll still be recovering from my letdown.

Little Earthquakes is perfect for the new mom or a mom with young children. The characters are stereotypical, but the book captures the experience of many professional, married women trying to balance their "old" lives with the addition of a baby. The relationships the new mothers have with their own mothers adds interest to the story, but only one character seems to have a good relationship with her mom--and that relationship is not well-developed. The most interesting character in the book is Lia, who is struggling to gain control of her life after a major loss.

Jennifer Weiner is fast becoming one of my favorite authors of so called Chick Lit. Her writing is funny, witty, tender and heartbreaking. Her books tend to be slices of life we can all relate to. Frequent glimpses of yourself, or someone you know makes you care about all her characters. And her books usually have a happy ending 

Little Earthquakes explores first time motherhood as seen through the eyes of 4 unlikely friends as they discover that having it all: motherhood, jobs, husbands and a life is a daunting task. Much of the issues explored are those you never read about in those What to Expect books, or see on A Baby Story.

I have minor complaints, mostly about the male characters, which all seemed a bit weak. Other than that I enjoyed this book; I laughed, cried and look forward to more books by Ms. Weiner.

This is the third book written by Jennifer Weiner that I have read. It grabbed me from the very beginning and wouldn't let me go. I found that the situations were very life like and I found myself identifying with one of the characters specifically and my girlfriends in a few of the others ... which made the story seem so plausible. The book really made you stop and think that there are "little earthquakes" that happen to every single one of us in life that causes shake ups and it's how we deal with them that determine our future ...

well, this wasn't my favorite by J.W. but it was quite all right. Probably more interesting to those who are having a baby? I just felt like a lot of it was anecdotal stuff about the trials and tribulations of new motherhood; I felt like I was reading the author's new-mother diary, not a work of fiction!

not for the queasy. lots of talk of breast pumps and not much juicy, gossipy chick lit in this one.

A friend loaned me this book when we were both pregnant, and I devoured it like pickles and ice cream. No, seriously. Weiner writes believable women characters better than just about anyone out there today, and this story following four women through the journey of becoming first-time moms is a must-have for any mother. It made me laugh as often as it made me cry, and I can't blame either on the hormones. Buy it, read it, and share it with your girlfriends.

I absolutely love Jennifer Weiner's style of writing and I think this book is the best I've read so far. This book focuses on the lives and relationships between three new mothers and one mother that's recently lost her child. Ms. Weiner's character development is so true-to-life and I think any mother could identify with at least one of the characters, if not all four. I laughed out loud several times and there were times I had to get the kleenex.

This book was so.... REAL. First time motherhood during the first year was depicted in 4 different characters in this story, and each story held elements that sent me back to those first suprises, and those first tedious, joyful, difficult, exciting, dull moments. Greatly written story, but I found it difficult to read because of the emotions it dragged out of me.

Not as great as Weiner's other novels I have read but I did enjoy it. The begining was hard to get into as far as learning the characters. She jumps back and forth between characters which is difficult in the begining when you are trying to get to know who is who and what is what, it can get a bit confusing. Once getting past the introductions, I really got into the book and enjoyed the characters. By the end, I was sorry it was over. Good book about about friendships, motherhood and life.

BookPage Review:

The perils of parenting

New York Times best-selling author Jennifer Weiner offers a frank, funny and poignant look at new motherhood, marriage and friendship in her latest book, Little Earthquakes. This follow-up to Good in Bed and In Her Shoes (which is soon to be released as a motion picture starring Cameron Diaz) begins as Lia, an actress, returns to her hometown of Philadelphia from Hollywood to hide out after her baby's sudden death. Heartbroken and filled with guilt, Lia cannot help but notice pregnant friends Becky, Ayinde and Kelly, three very different women who meet in yoga class and bond instantly.

Becky is a wisecracking, overweight chef who worries that people will think she is just fat rather than pregnant. After her baby Ava arrives, she has to contend with the mother-in-law from hell, who tries to undercut Becky's authority. Cool and elegant Ayinde is married to basketball star Richard Towne. Her own parents generally delegated their child-rearing obligations to nannies and other hired help, but Ayinde is determined to be an involved, loving mother to baby Julian despite her husband's frequent absences. Peppy, blonde Kelly grew up in a big Catholic family with a mother who drank too much and a father who was content with the status quo. She has set her sights on having a perfect life and a perfect family in their perfect apartment, which they can barely afford even before her husband loses his job weeks before Oliver's birth.

Each of the women soon discovers what every new mother discovers: babies change everything, including the best-laid plans. Wealth, race and religion notwithstanding, Becky, Ayinde and Kelly all find themselves wondering why it's all so much harderâyet ultimately more rewardingâthan they thought it would be.

Little Earthquakes will have readers laughing, crying and, if they're mothers, nodding their heads in absolute understanding. This is a stay-up-all-night read that's worth a little sleep deprivation.
