I have lasted 185 pages, and I'm giving up. I know there's an interesting story in the life of Marie Grosholtz, Madame Tussaud -- anyone who has visited one of the exhibitions that bear her name, and heard the "origin story" would be able to tell you that, but it isn't this turgid and far too pleased with itself book.
